I was accepted to the University of Colorado - Boulder on Friday, and am most likely going to be attending next fall. However, I have interest in doing a double major. I want to do a BA in Computer Science as well as a Bachelors in Business - Marketing. I have 15 credits completed that I know will be transferred, but I will be starting off in a low level math class. I need to graduate in 4 years, but starting off in Precalc leaves a lot of work for what you need to complete in your 2nd and 3rd year, while that is also heavy on the business side. How many credits max would you recommend a semester? And is it feasible for me to graduate with a double major despite staring in precalc? Also, does anyone recommend taking pre-calc and calc at the same time, or would this be way too heavy in the math section? Thanks for everyones input.
@collegeclass2021 You need to pass and learn the material in precalculus to enroll in calculus as those math classes build on each other. Lots of students at CU do double major but you may want to map out all your coursework now and see if you can fit it into four years. Summer school may be an option if you can afford to take one or two classes in the summer, that should allow you to finish. You could even start early, so enroll this summer before your freshman year and get precalculus out of the way early. Then you will be on track with other freshman who took precalculus in high school. If you are in Colorado, take precalculus at Front Range community college in the spring. Without precalculus under your belt, you may struggle other freshman classes, but depends on what classes you sign up for. Business math subjects also require precalculus math skills. Since you are interested in a BA you will have flexibility and may be fine. But start to study precalculus now, with an on line program if you cannot take it at your high school or local community college.
