Double major, Finance + HR=good combination?

Hi there!

I'm planning to do a double major in Business, and I was thinking on doing Finance and Human Resources Management. My main concern is having some job security when I finish my undergrad, or at least to have wider opportunities and being more competitive when looking for a job.

What do you think? Winning combo or nah?
I think Finance could be interesting. I also want to have some Management background, and I thought HR was exciting since I love working with people.

Advice? A better combination within Business?

Thanks!!!

P.S. Please do not advice me to do Accounting. I'm going to be a junior this upcoming fall and I have taken two accounting classes already, so I have an overall idea. I did pretty well because I had to, but I dont really want that as my career.

I just had to LOL at this.

I’d say that any winning combo, ever, does not involve HR in any respect. Unless you really like throwing peoples’ resumes in the trash as hard as you can because their GPAs suck, or criticizing people with no experience for having no experience.

I’m glad I amuse you.

Do Accounting and Math.

I wouldnt do HR.
Have you considered Marketing?

Try international business.

You might try to do Finance and Real Estate/Investment. As I know, they go well together.

It’s a great combo. Think pension consulting, plan sponsor, 401k, portfolio management, investment adviser, retirement planning, Health and insurance, life insurance, compensation, union and collective bargaining contracts, etc…

HR is more than reading resumes. Like IT, it was originally in the finance department but management theory evolved and HR can now be considered a functional specialty.

It’s considered more of a touchy feely side of business like marketing, but it isn’t. It can be quantitative like accounting or more so like finance

Yes, marketing is an option I’d consider. Real estate doesnt sound too bad either.

Tortfeasor: Exactly! There’s so much to it. It is a vital field to any business.
Nevertheless, I might talk to a few career advisors on campus and also do some research on the other possibilities (marketing, real estate, etc). I’m also thinking on asking some people in the field, they might give me some pointers. But I do see potential in my choice! Let’s see
