Ok so baruch doesnt allow 2 B.B.A majors. Thinking of lobbying lol but since I want to double major to make me look more competitive in the real world- i am majoring in real estate and i want to pick another major. Finance was my first choice till i heard their restrictions. Economics was my next but there is bba and ba economics and since bba is out of question my choices are ba in economics (and is ba in economics really usefull) or french/spanish or math (i personally am not really fond of math but i left it there as an option because i heard mathematicians get hired a lot in the finance world and is it really hard in baruch?)

Do you consider graduate school? It is much better to spend one extra year getting masters than getting a second bachelors. By the way, a second bachelors wouldn’t really make you more competitive, unless a job you are applying to requires/prefers a certain knowledge. At the end, it is your networking and connections that matter–not your degree. (forgot to mention appearance )

yeah networking is really important, thought a double major might help rather than a minor. You have been kind enough to help me out and also replied to my other thread, I really appreciate it. And I dont know if you remember but i said i was going to major in real estate at baruch. A lot of people are telling me that majoring in real estate is useless but i believe undergrad/graduate candidates who major in real estate will be in much more demand and especially since i have been into real estate since i was a kid. Can you please give me your thought on that? And yes im planning on going for my masters but after about a year a two of work exp in the field would you consider me going to baruch again for my mba or nyu (majority of schools dont offer real estate programs). and if i do a minor instead would math be more useful or econ.

As it seems to me, majoring in Real Estate is not useless, but it is not really needed. I have met a few students at Baruch who are majoring in Finance, and yet they are already working in Real Estate while still getting their degree. As one guy told me, he makes around 75k (and he is only a junior), which is way more than accounting and most of the business majors make, when they start after college. He told me that the reason why he is going to college is because he needs a diploma lol. They probably got those jobs through connections, but the fact is that they work in Real Estate without a degree.

As for the minor, math is definitely a good one, but you should consider the one that will be interesting to you, and will boost your GPA–not ruin it. I personally minored in econ just because I like it more than math. Although I did get all As in my math classes, I just don’t see how calculus is useful in the real world.

If you can get into NYU, you should go there. I have heard that it is better when students go to different schools for their bachelors and masters, especially when they are making a progression from a lower rank to the top one.
