Hi! So I’m a junior in high school. And I’m interested in business, particularly Finance, but I also want to double major in International Relations. And minor in International Business. After college, I also hope to attend law school and practice international law. Please let me know if this is a good idea, and if you know any colleges that are good for these majors.
Thanks
This plan depends on which colleges you look at- some you have to apply specifically to the business school (and may not be able to double major outside of it) while others you may be able to do an int’l business/IR double major.
Without knowing your stats, it is difficult to know which colleges would be attainable, but some examples of top schools with good programs of your interest include…
For IR:
Georgetown SFS
Upenn Huntsman Dual Degree
Stanford
Harvard
Princeton
Yale
For Business:
UPenn Wharton
Georgetown MSB
MIT
UC Berekley- Haas
UMich Ross
NYU Stern
Haha I don’t think I’ll be getting into those schools anytime. Sorry I should have included my scores
SAT: 1220 (I"m planning on retaking it in August
GPA: 3.99
Extracurriculars: Varsity Academic Team, Varsity Tennis Team (#1), Educator’s Rising, FBLA, NEHS, NHS
Awards: FBLA 2nd in Region (Global Business), FBLA 3rd in Region ( Social Media Campaign). R.I.S.E Award
Other: First Generation, Indian
I don’t think the minor is really necessary.
Too ambitious. Many business schools won’t allow double majors in outside schools (or if allowed, it will be very difficult to accomplish), so if you insist upon this approach, you’ll probably end up eliminating some otherwise good fitting universities. Pick either business or IR for a major, then minor in the other. You will need a very good GPA for law school admission; trying to cram so many reqs (from two schools) into a program will get pretty stressful and may end up wrecking your GPA.
In some schools - you have to be admitted directly to the business school in order to major in business. Keep that in mind when looking at possible schools.
