I am currently a freshman in Pamplin as an Accounting major. My dream is to be a treasurer/comptroller one day. How difficult is it to double major with Finance? Would I need to take five years? I know I need an extra 25 hours or so for the CPA exam, so would it be suggested to take winter/summer classes and try to avoid an extra year? What about a Master’s degree? Should I consider that?
Accounting majors that want to become CPAs often follow the 5 year plan. You receive both a masters degree and can sit for the CPA exam. IMHO I think you should wait until your sophomore year to see how you like Accounting classes. If you are just OK with the classes then switch to a Finance major. Dreaming is nice but at this point you don’t really have a basis for that wish.
