I’m an ASU student that is currently majoring in Computer Information Systems and I was looking to add an additional major in either Supply Chain Management or Data Analytics. I’ve looked at Supply Chain Management but I don’t know if it is for me since I don’t like to be on the phone all day or really care about purchasing or demand planning. I like data analytics but I hear it is a very competitive field. Supply Chain Management seems more secure though.
Both data analytics and supply chain management are, currently, relatively stable career fields in high demand.
Supply chain management doesn’t necessarily mean being on the phone all day. (And data analyst/scientist sometimes does. I work as a researcher at a tech company and I was just complaining earlier today about how many meetings I have…other people do have to use that research, and you have to spend a lot of time explaining it.)
But if you don’t care about purchasing or demand planning…then supply chain management probably wouldn’t be a good fit for you, as those are core parts of understanding supply chains. I’d still advise taking a class in it or at least talking to the professor, because those two things may be more interesting or different from how you imagine them. It seems like you’re imagining supply chain management as some kind of elevated administrative job, where you order supplies for offices or corporate businesses - and that’s not really what it is.
Data analytics could be good if you like math and statistics, and it’s a really good pairing with computer information systems.
