Just wondering...Does a double science-humanities major have an upperhand in top med school admissions vs. a single science major with similar stats?

What about a double science major?

Now, in the end, is it really worth the time and effort to even double major?

Well, double majoring may indicate a superior ability to manage time all the scheduling aspects that go in to successfully completeing a double major, which would be a plus. That said, depending on the requirements of your school, a double major may not necessarily take any more classes over the course of their undergrad years than a single majors, and if this were the case, then I imagine it would be irrelevant.

Furthermore, as is emphasized regularly on this forum, it does NOT matter what you major in for med school, so long as you complete the premed requirements. Given this, it would seem logical that if one major matters not at all, then neither would two.

While you consider doing this, consider that majoring in a science and in the humanities may simply be too much to schedule since there will be no overlap in requirements. I went in planning on doubling in Biology and Political Science, but dropped the Poli Sci when it bacame apparent that scheduling the two together would require extensive summer coursework, which at my school means lots and lots of $$. I added minors in Chem and Health Care Management, and a Neuroscience concentration to my Bio major instead.

Doubling in sciences is certainly much more doable, especially bio/chem. That said, you have to begin to consider the effect on your GPA, as your couseload will be very, very heavy.

Duke students are advised that double majoring does not matter.

Yo BDM, just wondering,...you just graduated, right?
Is it just me, or do you really stay up till 2:OO AM! (some of your posts are even at 4:30 am, I am really curious LOL!?! )

Well, I've been on PST for the past couple months now. But yeah, I do stay up pretty late.

me too, its 4:40 AM and I have a test at 9 AM
