Double major with Accounting and Economics

Hi, I'll be starting college in the fall of this year and had a few questions regarding majors. My long term goal is to go to law school in hopes of getting into Corporate law. I am unable to declare a double major before the end of my sophomore year and am wondering if it would be better to start college with the intent on majoring in econ or accounting first or if it matters? I chose accounting for its job opportunities as well, just in case my plans for law school fall through.

I also have a few secondary questions:
Is accounting and economics good prep for law school?

Would this double major allow me to grad in 4 years? (I have a few AP credits)

Is there a better combination for law school prep as well as maintaining good job opportunities in case my plans change?

Thanks A lot!

Econ is a great major for law school. I wouldn’t worry too much about not being able to declare accounting early on in your academic career. You will still have great job opportunities by majoring in Econ. Many top schools don’t offer business or accounting as a major, and those who are interested in business/finance/etc usually end up majoring in econ.
The double major depends on your school’s requirements. If your school does not have a strict curriculum then you may be able to graduate on time with a double major.

So your suggesting that I start out with econ major and then go to accounting if I can? I’ve heard that it is really hard to get a job with just an econ degree (especially from a t3-4) school is this true?

I think an accounting major/econ minor would be much more beneficial than an econ major/accounting minor, in case law school doesn’t work out. Of course, if you can double major, then go for it. Law schools don’t really care what your major was, they care far more about your LSAT and GPA.

Econ. + Accounting is a great prep. for Law School.

Wether or not you’ll be able to graduate in 4 years depends on your school more than anything. Since you know from the start that you wanna major in those 2 I don’t see why you can’t.

Pretty sure both will give you numerous job opprotunities. Any other combination kind of depends on what you like to do and how much money you want to make. I’m and English Major looking at going to Law and i’m currently looking for a 2nd major, to give myself more options.

LOL, you can get into Law School with just about any major.

If you want to go into law you should major in econ and philosophy with an emphasis on logic. There are people in my intro to logic class who are there solely for law school admission requirements and once you take the class it will be obvious why. A lawyer with a mastery of formal and informal logic will have a huge advantage over one who doesn’t. If you want to do corporate law I would take the intro accounting sequence and focus your economics major on money and banking.
