Is is possible to double major in MT and something else at JMU? Perhaps education or communications?

I believe it is possible to double major at JMU because it is a BA degree program.

A double major is possible, although it may take more than 4 years to complete both majors (particularly with education). Some students are able to complete a double major in 4 years if they come in with AP, IB or dual enrollment credit and/ or take summer classes.

Very few students in the Musical Theatre program choose to double major. The progam is credit intensive (58 required credits in the major – many of them 1 or 2 credit courses), and most students take far more credits in the major than are required, ending up with a similar number of credits in the major that are required in many BFA programs.

Out of the 33 upperclassmen (rising sophomores through seniors) currently in the program there are 2 who are pursuing a double major, both with the School of Media Arts and Design. A few others are pursuing minors in Non-Profit Studies. I believe a couple of the incoming freshmen may also be interested in double majoring, but will not know for sure until the fall semester begins.

Many of the students who would like to double major find that the Theatre Concentration (with 45 required credits in the major – almost all 3 credit classes) is more easily combined with a second major.
