So just like every other student who wants to become a PE, I'm worried about the job outlook when I graduate. My brother mentioned the idea of double majoring, and since PE and energy management over lap, I thought it could be possible. What do you think? Would it be possible to double major in petroleum engineering and energy management an not lose my mind?

Question: And you wanna do it in Four Years?..

Answer: Double Major in Engineering has been discussed many times; just search it on this forum. And personally, only John Wayne could do it…as by the time you have to take upper division classes or core courses, you will go crazy. Why you would go crazy? because those classes are hard and you need to get high GPA in order get better career. I am not talking GPA of 3.0 or 3.1 but to be comfortable you need to have at least 3.4. Competition is fierce and with low GPA, the recruiter will not touch your resume. GPA Quality counts rather than marginal or mediocre.

Of course, you still can get a job (Just Over Broke -JOB) with low GPA since some unknown or small companies still need engineers as if there is any consolation.

Just my two cents aint worth a dime.

I don’t see the point in double majoring. If the demand for petroleum engineers drops, you’ll probably see a similar hit in energy management. Besides, companies probably want someone with a masters of mba for energy management. At the moment, the market wants petroleum engineer majors, so I’d focus solely on that. Anything else is going to be a distraction because engineering is tough and a huge consumption of time.
