I am going to be entering Carnegie Mellon this fall as a physics major. I am wondering if anyone knows how feasible it would be to double major in mechanical engineering. If I am trying to aim for career along the lines of furthering space travel and exploration, should I have my concentration in mechanical engineering and astrophysics as the side major or in astrophysics and mechanical engineering as the side major? I am also interested in a career in medicine. Would it be possible for me to also prepare for one as I pursue two degrees? I am not entirely sure as to what job I want just yet. Please and thank you!

You don’t have to make these decisions right away. The first year of courses for physics and mechanical engineering are pretty much the same. Once you are at university and can see a bit more about what the two majors are all about you will be able to make a better decision. For medical school, you don’t absolutely have to major in biology, chemistry or something like that but you do have to take certain courses as prerequisites (organic chemistry comes to mind). I am sure that CMU has a pre-med advisor and you can seek advice there.

@xraymancs Thanks so much for the help! I am definitely going to monopolize the advisory staff next year.
