does anyone have any experience double majoring with the five year arch program and a four year bachelors degree (liberal arts)? or know someone who tried....?

Wellllllll, my son says he is double majoring a 5yr MArch with a BS in an as yet to be determined major. Says he is on track. One semester down and nine to go, so time will tell.

Based on my son's curriculum it is probably possible, but you would have to select your core requirements and free electives very, very carefully starting in your first semester.

ALso, don't forget that at most schools in order to graduate in the 5 year time frame you have to take 17 credits per semester, if there are not enough "free electives" to accomodate a second major you would have to take additional credits during some semesters. WHile this doesn't sound to bad, the reality is that at my son's school a 6 credit design class is 15 class hours per week, two an a half times the class time of a typical credit hour.

Very true jjcddg.

Son is working closely with his adviser, and has the additional bonuses of quite a few AP credits plus he tested out of some required core math. Still, it's going to be a squeeze to make it happen...

Oh the optimistic enthusiasm and boundless energy of youth.

Architecture degrees are very demanding, or so I hear, I don't start until this fall. If you are wanting a minor, you may want to make it in a related field in which some credits will count for both. Keep in mind that if you do, many schools with architecture programs are many credit hours and if you sign up for too many you may be charged an overload fee, or it may delay your graduation a year or so.

I want to double major in Architecture and Civil Engineering, but if I get into Cal Poly SLO, then I'm pretty sure that will be extremely difficult. You're going to be a freshmen, no? Well, I'm a transfer, and when I was taking 5 Arch. classes in one sem, I did not sleep until 3 AM most nights. That's just the life. Architecture demands your soul, if you want to get into that major, you can't go it halfway. If I get into CPSLO, I'm going to look into minoring in Arch. Engineering. So that's my advice, just minor in something else. If you double major, just realize you're going to be an undergrad for a longer time than usual.

Also, liberal arts is an iffy major, you should do something that makes you a little more marketable. Architecture is not as celebrated in the US as it is in the rest of the world. Think about your future in the career.

also, if you need some credibility, I did alright with a 4.0 GPA (in Arch), 3.94 (Overall). You gotta love what you do.

no, actually i am in my second semester of architecture right now and was considering double majoring but not sure if it's possible/makes sense.
