Hey guys. I was just wondering if anybody knows this, cause I looked around and couldn't find the answer myself. Supposing a student is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences, is it possible for them to take on a double major, by enrolling in one of the majors at, say, the College of Visual Arts?

Thanks, and good luck to everybody applying!!

I wish I had an answer for you, but you will have time at your orientation to discuss this with your advisor.

It is important to approach them about this, but I don't believe you can declare your second major until your junior year (officially).

My D is doing Asian Studies and wanted to do an International Affairs, but found that the coursework is too similar and she's switching to Asian Studies and Poli Sci with a minor in religion for fun.

I wouldn't get too keyed up about it yet, though because you just might change your major altogether after you start.

I believe this is possible.

Dual Degree versus a Double major

Students should note that there is a difference between a double major (2nd major) and a dual degree (second baccalaureate degree).

To obtain a second major, one must meet all requirements of the college of the primary major but only the major requirements of the secondary major. For information about the second major see 'Second Majors and Academic Regulations' in the "Academic Regulations and Procedures" chapter of the General Bulletin (p.75).

Students may receive a second baccalaureate degree provided that 1) the requirements for each major/minor as well as individual college requirements for both the first and the second degrees are satisfied; and 2) thirty (30) semester hours in residence are completed, in addition to the hours required for the first degree. The additional thirty (30) semester hours must be completed in residence after the completion of the first degree. Hours earned by the student during the completion of the first baccalaureate degree, over and above those extra credit hours actually required for the first degree, may not be included in the thirty (30) semester hours. There are no liberal studies or Florida CLAST requirements for the second degree. Second majors and second baccalaureate degrees are not MAPPED.
