Double majors

I've been reading a lot of promotional material from Pitt recently, and it seems like every student mentioned is majoring in two or three different subjects with four minors and the BPhil degree program. When I applied, however, there was one line for "program of study", with nowhere to indicate potential additional programs.

Can anyone tell me at what point students have the opportunity to add majors or minors? Is this something that is done after the beginning of freshman year, or should I be doing something now if I have an interest in a second major?

From what I understand from my son, you can’t officially declare your major until you take a certain number of classes in it. So I think that you have time.

Great, thanks!

What you write down as your intended major when you apply doesn’t really mean anything. Typically people declare their majors sophomore year.

Depending on what you want to combine, you should look at the requirements as soon as possible. DD is doubling up in a language and a science (at least that is where she started) and she has had to do some pretty creative scheduling to get all the labs and language requirements in. I think for many majors, you can declare at any time and you can switch very easily as well.
