Double Majors?

Could some one with knowledge of the curriculum help me with this. Currently I am interested in double majoring in Chemistry and Economics. Does anyone know how this works or how I would have to spread out my credits.

Also, if anyone could give me some information on the 3-2 or 4-2 programs that Middlebury offers in conjunction with other universities. I know they have some with Columbia, but I cannot seem to find a substantial amount of information on them.

I got the impression last year visiting schools that double majors are increasingly discouraged. Specifically I remember the Presidents of two quite different schools —Middlebury and Johns Hopkins ----say that it is really difficult to complete all the requirements for two majors as well as any distribution requirements (Middlebury has 8 categories out of which you have to complete a course in 7). I don’t think you “spread” your credits—you have do everything listed for both majors. So a major and a minor would probably be recommended. I see something about 3-2 in the physics department (with an engineering graduate degree?) but I don’t know about chemistry and economics. The new Middlebury website has a contact person listed for the chemistry department if you are a prospective student interested in the department, so maybe you could e-mail your question. Good luck. The sciences at Middlebury are suppposed to be great.
