Knowing that:
1) most pharmacy related classes are in Busch (?)
2) most people studying pharmacy live in Busch
3) Douglass is far from Busch

would it be reasonable/possible for someone majoring in pharmacy to live in Douglass? Or would living there be too much of an inconvenience?

I like peaceful, small places and from what I've heard, Busch is only quiet depending on where you live (?). It's also super big and stuff which to me is a little discouraging (yes, Rutgers overall is big).

If anyone currently/previously enrolled in EMSOP can share their story about where and why they chose the place they did to live and how they adjusted to any inconveniences, that'd be awesome. Of course I would still very much appreciate it if other people with different majors but similar problems shared their stories too. Thank you! :)

Too bad no one has answered this question yet.

I graduated many years ago from Rutgers pharmacy. I lived on Busch for a couple years, which was very convenient. I lived in Nichols and Richardson. Richardson was very convenient because the pharmacy school is a short walk away.

I lived off campus my last two years which was not as convenient but still doable.

It is definitely possible to live on Douglass while attending the pharmacy school, it is just not as convenient. Have you visited both campuses? You should definitely pick a nice day and just walk around both places to get a feel for walking distances and bus stops.

The biggest problem imo is if you have early or late classes because you have to add in commuting time, making your schedule even earlier and later. Also if you want to study in a group, I am guessing that most people will be residents of Busch and want to meet on Busch.

You will not have to make a housing decision until early March when the application comes out. You want to apply as early as possible in order to receive your first campus choice.

If you really want to live on Douglass, I would go for it freshman year, when your classes tend to be more scattered around different campuses. As you move on, more of your classes will be at Busch, and that is when you may want to live closer.

Living on Douglas while being a pharmacy or engineering student is definitely doable. Obviously Douglas is one of the more attractive campuses to live on, so I can see why you would want to. You should just know that it will come with some drawbacks, mostly transportation related. You will need to use the REXB (the bus between Busch and Cook/Douglas) to get to your classes. This is usually about a 10-15 minute one way trip, except during the two rush hours when you can be looking at 25-45 minutes depending on the severity of the traffic. You will have to be very wary of how much time you are allocating toward getting to class as you won’t have the luxury of just rolling out of bed and walking to class in 5-10 minutes like most other pharmacy/engineering major on Busch. Rualum makes a good point that freshman year you typically will have classes on multiple campuses, so this would be the year to try Douglas if at all. I would make sure that you try to make friends with a lot of people in your classes because there just aren’t too many pharmacy majors on C/D.
