Dr. Chung vs. Grubers Math WB

Can someone please tell me which one is better? I've heard both are amazing but I only need one...

I couldn’t tell you which is better as I’ve only used one but I can tell you that Dr. Chung’s is immensely helpful. Just working through about half of the book and practice tests in the space of the month raised my math score from 600 to 720. Math was by far my lowest section initially and I was endlessly discouraged by it until I practiced with that book. Also, if you get it, don’t panic if your scores on those practice tests don’t seem very good. The questions are much more difficult than most of what is on the real test but prepare you very well. Good luck!

I just got my Gruber’s Math today, i looked through the first couple pages, it’s really neat. It shows how to do many problems, in more than one way. It breaks down how to do algebra problems, geometry problems, etc. I recommend it.

Which one is better for getting an already pretty good student a great score. I got a 650 in Jan, a 710 in May, and am shooting for 770+

From what I’ve seen on the forums, Gruber’s great for improvement.

I just wanted to let you know that there is a big difference between the Gruber’s math workbook and the Gruber’s Complete Guide… the one that everyone is referring to on cc is the Complete Guide… lol
I accidentally got the workbook one… and it has these really basic math problems in it … just wanted to let you know… so don’t make the mistake that i did :)

@ Interficio
If I were you I would do Dr. Chung’s rather than Grubers… idk… that’s just my opinion tho :)

@iwishicould what makes you think it would be better for me?

@gsw257 I too have a score of 600. If Dr. Chung has helped you that much then I think I will buy it too. I already have the WB (@iwishicould I guess we made the same mistake lol)

Would anyone like to sell me their Dr. John Chung’s SAT Math for $10?

ugh the chung book is so expensive. 25-33 books on amazon and other sites. 66 (***) dollars on ebay. I might have to get the gruber’s workbook just because I don’t have the money right now.

It depends what your score actually is. When I bought Dr. Chung’s, my score was a 670 on math, so I pretty much knew everything it was only the difficult problems towards the end that messed me up. I’d say if you’re scoring in the 600s then get Dr. Chung’s. I used it and it boosted me from a 670 to a 780 (would’ve been perfect but I made 1 dumb mistake). I used about 19 of the practice tests and went through all 50 tips. I’ve never used Gruber’s but I heard it’s very good for math, but Dr. Chung’s definitely helped me since the problems are so much more difficult that they teach you the “outside the box” thinking you need on the SAT’s harder questions. I used that book for about 2 months and it definitely helped a lot.

EDIT: Just saw you scored 600. If you know all the basic math concepts (like the geometry, algebra, numbers, functions, etc.) then I’d get Dr. Chung’s. If you still need to brush up on your basic concepts, then review those before you get this book.

Well, I actually scored 710 last time, so Chung’s might be the best… or maybe just blue book practice… hmm

@interficio
if you scored a 710 last time … then I think it would be best if you just did college board tests… and just reviewed themm… that’s just my opinion… If you’ve gotton a 710 thats only like 4 questions away from perfect score

I actually don’t like dr Chung’s cuz I feel like it really doesn’t resemble what the real test is like… so yeah I suggest you do college board stuff :)

@ Vapperss haah yeah lol we made the same mistake…
oh and listen to wrongbelief … I agree with him :)

I used Chung to raise my score from 660 in Jan to 800 in June

Anyone wanna give me a used Chung book they wanna sell to me? Thanks =]

I haven’t used Dr. Chung’s but I am currently using Nova’s SAT Math Bible, which offers problems ranging from relatively easy to ludicrously hard.

Fortunately, the author really breaks down even his hardest problems and presents simple, to-the-point solutions that can only be described as elegant.

For those looking to conquer the math section, the SAT Math Bible is a cheaper alternative.
