Hey everyone!
I am currently a sophomore at a Cal State, and I would really really like to transfer! I'm currently majoring in either Business Administration.
I'm planning on applying to USC (Marshall), NYU (Stern), UPenn (Wharton), Boston College (CSOM) and UCLA. I think that they might be a little out of reach for me as I know all of these schools are extremely competitive. But all suggestions and/or critiques are welcome!

Here is my Resume, it has both strong and weak points, it's alright I guess.

University Stats:
Major: Business Administration
University GPA: 3.94
Extracurriculars: Indian Club, Middle Eastern Student Association, Chess club, Math Tutor,
Work Experience: I work part time, about 20 - 25 hours a week.
Awards/Honors: Dean's List

High School Stats:
GPA: 3.9
Graduated top 10% of high school class.
SAT: 1650/2400 (650M, 550WR, 450CR) :/
SATII: 650 Math, 550 Bio.
Extracurriculars: Varsity Soccer, Indian Club, Speech&Debate Member, Link Leader.
Awards/Honors: Modern Language Awards, Honor Roll every semester, some Academic Awards.

I should have prerequisites completed for all of these schools at the end of the spring quarter 2011 and I should have completed 95 quarter units (About 63 semester units)

In my opinion, you look VERY competitive for all of the schools you have listed. Since you’ll be applying to be a junior transfer, you won’t have to send your SAT scores. I really think if you write good essays, you’ll get into at least 2 of the schools on your list.

@McBainTrain: Hey Thanks! I appreciate you looking over my stats!
Yeah I’m planning to start on the Essays ASAP, so I’m hoping that they should be solid by the time apps are due in Feb/March. I already submitted for UCLA last week.

And you really think I won’t be looked down upon since my ECs are not that great?
And I think I do have to send in SAT scores regardless of if I am going in as a sophomore or junior, and that is one of the main concerns I have. Do you think that my SAT scores will hinder my chances, even though I have a great college record so far ?

From NYU’s website

“If you have been enrolled in a college or university for at least one year of full-time study, you are exempt from having to submit the SAT or ACT.”

=)

you have to send SAT scores even if you would be going in as a junior? i guess some colleges have different requirements than others, but I find that a little odd. Regardless, I don’t think your SAT scores would hinder you from being accepted because your college gpa is terrific as well as your high school gpa.

It’s funny that you say your ECs aren’t great, because I actually found them quite interesting. It’s not about how many ECs you have, but how much time you spend doing those ECs and your impact. If you’re an active member of those clubs, I think those ECs would look pretty cool on a transfer application. Furthermore, you also have a part-time job, which I think is always a boost on applications.

Don’t stress out, your chances are really high!

@giantmidget: Thanks! I didn’t even see that!
And I also know that USC doesn’t require SAT scores as well if I have over 30 semester units. But I’m more concerned with BC and UPenn, as both of those schools DO look at SATs and are extremely competitive and have little space to enroll in to their business programs.
Would I have a shot at UPenn? That’s my top choice but I know it’s a far reach.
I know McBainTrain mentioned I could get into two of my choices, but which would I have a good shot at?

@McBainTrain: Thanks again! Yeah I’m a little stressed, since I made a couple of bad decisions and got lazy my senior year in high school. I didn’t apply to where I should have in high school, I kinda blew off the application process back then :/

I don’t think you have a good chance at Wharton – your SAT scores are low, and nothing else in your stats makes up for them.

At the schools, I think you stand a good chance of getting in and should definitely apply.

How much emphasis does Wharton as well as the other schools put on the SAT scores?
And does anyone know how generous the schools are with financial aid?

I’m down to Upenn, USC, Boston College and UCLA. I don’t think I’m going to apply to NYU anymore.
Can anyone else give me their input about my chances to transfer?
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Okay, I know this might sound a little stupid but, I just received my grades for fall and I got an A- in Economics1 and Accounting1. Would this hinder my chances of getting in to my schools, since I am a business major and these are the prerequisites for almost every business program ???
