Dress for interview at dance audition

S has his first college audition coming up next weekend. He received information on what he should wear for the dance portion of the audition, but after the dance part the kids all have individual interviews. Should he bring some nice street clothes to change into after the dance? I think he would feel kind of weird going in for the interview wearing tights and a t-shirt. Do people usually change?

Good question! I would love to know this as well!

When I was auditioning, I didn’t change clothes. I simply wore whatever I wore to the audition. Other dancers did change into a dressy casual outfit! I think it’s a matter of personal preference!

@lsfdancemom: So went to the Elon dance audition this past weekend, and S had clothes to change into just in case, but it turned out no one changed for the interview, so he just put on warmup pants over his tights and that seemed to be fine. The girls seemed to either put on warmup pants or a skirt over their leotard (though I think some just wore the leotard and tights). So it appears that changing is unnecessary.

What kind of questions usually are posed during these interviews? My D has one at her audition on Saturday, would love to let her know what kind of questions to expect or to have ready for the interviewer.

@nowmomto3: S has only had 2 interviews so I don’t know how representative they are. The ones he has had have asked things like What are your goals, Who is your favorite dancer or dance company, Why our school, Where else are you applying, What are your SAT scores/GPA, Do you have any questions for us. There hasn’t been anything that really threw him or that was at all difficult to answer. There was a thread a while ago on the Musical Theatre board about interview questions, so we practiced with some of those, like what is the biggest risk you have taken, what is the biggest challenge you have faced (this interview??), etc., but he hasn’t had to answer any questions like that so far. Mostly they seem to just want to get you talking and try to get a sense of your personality. Oh and no one has changed for the interview portion - they just throw on something over their leotard and go.
