Drew Universty vs American University

I would be majorying in poli/sci

American is a better school (much higher stats) and studying political science in DC? What could be better.

I don’t think “stats” should be highly considered when choosing a college. Fit, whether or not you can be happy at a school, is something more important than the average SAT/GPA score of the student body or US News Ranking. I would recommend visiting both if you can. Also, weight financial aid packages as well.

Drew has a well recognized political science program. One of its strength is its UN Semester, where students have the opportunity to take classes/intern at the UN. Here is a link for more information on that program: [Semester on the United Nations | International & Off-Campus Programs | Drew University](http://www.drew.edu/iocp/programs/semester-on-the-united-nations)

Also, there is a semester in Washington through GWU:

Check out Poli Sci offerings at Drew: [Political Science | College of Liberal Arts | Drew University](http://www.drew.edu/undergraduate/academics/aos/political-science)

Good luck with your decision!

While very late for this post, I would have to bring a counterpoint to lasercat’s reply:

-American’s rank in 75th in USN&WR National research U category, a very tough group made up of the best, premier state schools, best private schools, Ivy league etc. while Drew is in the smaller National Liberal Arts schools ranked 107th.
So more resources at American with a stronger prestige and reputation

-Drew has a good Poly Sci department, but American has a full School of Government and Public Affairs in addition to a VERY strong Ply Sci Department
So American much stronger in Poly Sci programs

-Drew has a semester at the UN which is good, but American has a full School of International Studies
So American much stronger for international Poly Sci

-Drew located in pretty Madison, NJ, which is over an hour from NYC and that is good, but American located in DC. and has access to so many government agencies. The Princeton Review named American Most Politically Active School in 2008.
So American has more options for poly sci majors vis-a-vis location

-Drew best known for theology and theater. American for government, poly sci, and international studies
So as nice as Drew is, American is a better choice for Poly Sci/Government majors

All things considered, American is a stronger choice for Poly Sci…BUT I will agree that fit is the most important thing: go to where you will feel at home.
