Drexel low GPA, high SAT

Okay so I have a 3.3 gpa and a 1400 on the SAT. My gpa is so low because of a sophomore slump when a lot happened to me. I really want to go to Drexel but I know my gpa falls well below average. Do I even have a chance of admission?

Also I want to do either biomedical engineering or chemical engineering

You definitely don’t have zero chance. My boyfriend got waitlisted there with a 2.8 and an 1170. If they waitlisted him, they should accept you

@haileyhensley1 thank you. Anyone else?

You shouldn’t have a problem getting in.

It’s a match.
But have you run the NPC?

Indeed Drexel has lousy financial aid, that makes it unaffordable for most.
If you like co-ops, try uCIncinati, a leader and pioneer in co-ops with good merit aid.
And don’t forget to apply to more universities (Temple, LaSalle, Rowan just accross the PA/NJ border…)

Drexel has a high acceptance rate because a lot of people transfer or drop out (I heard it’s because of the work load and the $$)
I’ll be attending Drexel this fall and my SAT scores are similar to yours. I think you can definitely get in. When you apply with the Common App, make sure to highlight the reasoning behind your GPA. It’s important to Drexel know.
As for financial aid, I don’t know how much you’ll receive. Depending on your situation, you can get a good amount but for merit, I don’t think they can give too much.
Despite the tuition cost (which is around $60k), Drexel is relatively generous with financial aid.

So overall, yes I think you can get in. Just make sure to have a decent essay and try your best to make the rest of your application nice. I believe it’s a matter of money. How much they give you is something I can’t tell. My friend got accepted but they only gave him around $25k while they gave me $62k.

Drexel is not generous with aid and also they are need aware.

Drexel has been very generous to my child and we are quite needy, very low EFC.

@haileyhensley1

Did he get off the waitlist?

For anyone that cares, I got deferred from biomed as of December 14th

^Thanks for the update, it’s useful for students who read the threads.
What are you going to do - where else are you applying?

It’s true. For future potential applicant … Don’t ask if you can get in. Try to determine if you’ll get an offer you can afford. $70,000 next year all in.

@MYOS1634 I’ve got deferred from Pitt and accepted to Widener university so far, so I’ve got an option lined up worst case scenario if I don’t get in anywhere else. I’m still waiting on PSU, URI, Temple and Delaware but I feel like I can get into 3 of those.

Much of the acceptance chance depends upon the school and how competive your intended major is that year. Some majors are easier than others. Some are weighted upon other factors (like a portfolio).

If anyone is curious, I was accepted on March 22nd for biomedical engineering!

Congratulations!!!
And thank you for updating us.
