same here!! congrats!

I understand everything you said. Like i completely relate. The last thing i want is to be in a 7 year program with a bunch of bookworms that never leave their rooms.

I would have gone to penn or duke for the same reason... but i got in to Drexel meds 7 year program with drexel undergrad... which is amazing for me. Because i end up with a garuanteed admission into med skool but also the benefits of a city [clubs, ppl]... omg... u dont know how excited i am... however... u didnt apply to drexel/drexel.... which makes ur choice very difficult. I'm glad im not in your position..lol... good luck...

btw... lehigh is such a party skool... like insane... BUT... its in bethlehem.. which sux...

i dunno... did u get into any other programs?

expres2nyc

yeah, but even at drexel, i read descriptions about that school and it's a technical institute, doesn't that sound somewhat dissuading? most of the kids are there to graduate and get a job asap.

i dunno, maybe i'll learn to adapt :-/

i got into rpi/albany, lehigh/drexel, drexel/drexel, & uconn

n33ta05

i agree with you... drexel is mostly a techie skool

BUT... there are 11000 total undergrads at drexel.. thats alot of ppl... somewhere in that group.. u will find "sum" party kids/kids that actually leave theirs rooms

PLUSSSSSSSS.... USP and UPENN are ACROSS THE STREET!!... TEMPLE and ST JOES are a 5-10 minute train ride away... and VIllanova is 20 min away....

i liv in northeasy philly... 50% of my friends attend temple, penn, usp or drexel... when u r in a city... everything is available to you...

im not sayin drexel is amazing... not by any stretch... BUT

-im not passing up the chance to be in philly
-im not passing up a garaunteed medical acceptance and a 3 year stress-free cake walk into med skool...

i got into lehigh/drexel ... drexel/drexel... rpi/amc and union/amc...

if you want to read about why i chose drexel as opposed to the other 3.. check the other thread about drexel med

"-im not passing up a garaunteed medical acceptance and a 3 year stress-free cake walk into med skool..."

I agree with almost everything you said, except for this comment. Those 3 years can be a cake walk, but if you plan on just partying and not putting any effort in, then you are not going to meet the minimum MCAT requirements. I've heard of too many people not being able to attend Drexel Med School (yes, including many Desis) because they slack off in college. Then they are just some regular Drexel University (or Villanova or Lehigh) graduates with sub-standard MCAT scores competing for medical school the old-fashioned way.

NOTE: This is in no way to degrade BA/MD programs or scare people away from them. In fact, I plan on attending Villanova BA/MD myself. But don't expect to "cake walk" through undergrad and be able to get a 27 on the MCAT. Remember, those people that I mentioned who couldn't meet the requirements were all high-achieving students in high school, not really different from yourself or any of the other people on CC that have been accepted to BA/MD programs.

mikespan32,
i agree...

One of my cousins went through the UMIAMI program and she said that a few kids couldnt meet the MCAT... but.. she told me that if you take the Kaplan MCAT prep course and just do the work they assign you, its really easy to break 30....atleast for her.... so yea... you have to put effort... but i mean, at the same time... its not like im going to be at hopkins aka cutthroat city... but yea.. i feel ya

and actually... the quote -->"3 year stress-free cake walk"
... not my words... a kid currently in the 7 year med program at Drexel told me that so...

mikespan32...

i got a question
why did u choose villanova?... just curious

Wow looks like every CCer that applied got in. Or maybe the kids that got rejected aren't in the mood to publicize it.

where exactly does drexel med rank?

and what do u guys think about lehigh? is it really ALL WHITE and suburbia? that would really stink

i dont have too many options so it would be nice to get some honest thoughts (this is my only program)

I'm in the same position i am choosing between Drexel/lehigh and cornell....and i'm scared lehighs not going to be very diverse, i like the program but i dont know anything about the medical school and does anyone know if you can apply out?

One more for D/D. Any one know the metriculation rate?

arite hi all i got into drexel/drexel , lehigh/drexel, and villanova/drexel --so i am a bit confused about which one to go to
anybody know the pros and cons of the different programs or why one may be better than another--any suggestions are appreciated

Villanova all the way.

Why: They almost beat UNC in NCAA Tourney. Well, that and also because it's a respected school that isn't on the side of a mountain like Lehigh or in the middle of Philadelphia like Drexel. It's conveniently located just outside of Philly in a nice suburban setting where the people are nice, the education is good, and the girls are good lookin'.

well villanova is definetely a nice school w/ a very pretty campus but one thing i'm concerned about is that it doesnt seem to be a very diverse school- coming from a school which is probably the most diverse in li i would like to have somewhat of a diverse college -- also i have two friends who have gotten into drexel and are going there-- and i am getting the most scholarship at it so i guess i am leaning towards it but i'm still a bit confused

i have two questions which hopefully someone could answer
1) do u know if we can study abroad in the 7 yr programs?
2) at drexel, do we get honors housing if we are in the program or do we have to be in the honors college in addition to the med program to have the honors housing?

hey guys im havina really big dilemma. i have to choose between drexel/drexel, lehigh/drexel and vcus 8 year program wher eu dont have to take hte mcats at all. is drexel really an easier program? cuz then i'd wanna go there. but like. i dontn like the idea of takin the mcats at all.

Drexel is ranked 100.

If you are ok at studies MCAT no problem. There is no easy in Med school.

karishma1,
i got into all 3 as well [lehigh drexel and villanova]
i chose drexel... mailed in my deposit today
i chose it because...

1] diversity... like i go to an all-white, all-guy high shcool [prep]... has gotten so annoying... i need some desi's once in a while
2] cant beat philly... like villanova is only 20 minutes away... but drexel is a 5 minute walk from spring garden [where all the bars, clubs and stuff r]... i would rather be closer to philly
3] its the cheapest [biggest scholarship]

chicabonita2654,

i got into rpi 7 year and union 8 year as well... they have NO MCAT... but i decided to go to drexel instead because it was closer to home... so i passed up the opportunity of not having to take MCAT's because rpi and union are so far from home... i just weighed the pros and cons... taking the MCAT will be a b*tch... but atleast ill enjoy every other aspect of my life better at drexel then I ever would at rpi... so... i mean... its personal preference... drexel has sooo many pros to it... that in my opinion, its worth the sacrifice... PLUS... in your case, you save a year by doing 7 years at drexel instead of 8 years at VCU... either way you cant go wrong... but i would choose drexel

i think that i am going to go to drexel as well -- two of my friends are also going and yea i am going for pretty much the same reasons that u r express2nyc-- like its in the city, and biggest scholarhip -- hopefully i'm making the right decision-- its just scary because of the fact that this is deciding the rest of my life -its a big decision but i think that i am happy with my decision--btw, how many ppl get into the drexel/drexel prgram--anyone know?

In lehigh, villanova or Drexel programs, you are given AP credits counts towards your total credits needed to graduate. My son is most probably going to get about 55-60 credits for all AP courses taken.

In RPI program, they give you credits for AP courses but you have to take other advanced courses or more electives.

I think saving a year is important in this long journey. Drexel undergraduate gives you good scholarship.
