halleluyah i just got my lehigh/drexel admition today. It took forever for me maybe cause im in California.

yo amir i got into usc, choose usc, undergrad fun as hell grad has an awesome hospital affiliation and the tution of the grad is the same as many other private med schools; im pretty sure you got a scholarship tot he undergrad as well so you won't be too much in debt; anyways choose usc

i've been reading this thread for a while now, so i decided to post and ask a few questions.
i've also been accepted to drexel/drexel, and the choice i have to make is between this program and cornell. like some of you, one of my concerns is the relatively low ranking of drexel med. i realize that US news' rankings do not accurately rate the quality of medical education (its based more on funding, etc), but not a lot of ppl have heard of drexel med (at least the ppl i've talked to in general). so, has anyone heard positive things about the med school or the program? from my visit, the med school seems like a good place and has a great academic environment.
oh, i know someone asked this, so i'll post the numbers. over 400 ppl applied to drexel/drexel, about 115 ppl were interviewed, about 75 got offered admission, all for around a 40 member class in the program. i got this from the admissions director at drexel.

i have the same problem! except with lehigh drexel..rite now i am leaning towards a regular undergrad at cornell or barnard but it really depends on you personally.. i'm not that comfortable with living in pa but i haven't visited lehigh yet so i'm not at all sure about anything yet.. as for the 7 year thing most people tell me that the year isnt that important its often better to get the extra year in undergrad because with the seven yrs getting a break inbetween medical school and residencies is probably unlikely..i haven't heard much about drexel either its a middle of the pack medical school but some of my friends who are applying to medical school would say any medical school in the US is a good medical school..with cornell i'm a little apprehensive become of the competitiveness of the pre-med program..it depends on if you are willing to take the risk

I got into Drexel/Drexel too, but I heard that Hahnemann Hospital is going bankrupt or something. Does anyone know if this is true? I'm trying to decide between Drexel, Penn State, UConn, and Temple.

i dont think so. it went bankrupt before and thats why H Univ. was bought by drexel univ. when there was a lack of funds. under drexel, i think the med school is doing fine financially since drexel has quite a bit of money.

since being bought out by drexel university, the med skool is doing exceptionally well.... in fact, the med skool is the most profitable component of drexel university at the current time...
it was in dissarray be4 but its fine now...

but... if i were you... i would go to psu's program instead.. it is better than the other 3 programs in many/most ways

SK1415, where I'd go if I were you:

PSU

Drexel or UCONN

Temple

I was all set to go to Temple until I visited PSU and fell in love with it. The problem is that they are giving me a grand total of zero dollars a year. Is everyone suggesting PSU because it's w/ Jefferson?

Is everyone suggesting PSU because it's w/ Jefferson?

... yes, mostly
psu is also a sweet undergrad skool to go to

and also... as far as finances go... psu is only 20 g's a year... temple after schoalrships is probably around 10 g's... you will make up all of that money by becoming a doctor more quickly and increasing you earning power because you will be making money sooner since the psu program is accelerated...so...

well I have decided to choose UMKC 6 year BA/MD over Drexel. I think saving two years is unbelieveable expecially since I want to be a surgeon.

drexel's program is 7 years so you're saving 1 year not 2, but I guess 1 year is still a long time.

hey what's up, i'm in the lehigh program right now and I can provide you with some info about diversity and stuff if you need, either email me - phi204@lehigh.edu or priyapickle86 on aim.

priya

I was checking residency placement for Drexel Medical School and it seems pretty good. They did get into orthopedic, dermatology.... Here is the link:

Hey. Congrats to all of you accepted into the Drexel combined program. I'm looking to apply next year (I'm a junior). Can some of you guys who have been accepted tell me some of your SATs/community service/EC stats so I have some idea of what I need to get in? Thanks!

hey everyone well i went to the drexel accepted students day today and i was able to meet up with some of the students in the program, and talk to some ppl there and it was really nice -- so i have decided to go to drexel-- anyone else going there?

yea me too karishma
;-)

mlee88... just click on the screenames of people that have gotten into the program... then search through old posts... you will find everything you will ever want to know about these programs

Alot of pple I know Have no clue what drexel COM is, but the second I mention MCP hannamen, They say wow thwats great. Or thats a good School. Its a matter of the name game. Back then it was hannamen or MCP... not DREXEL.

BBJMDIT

the thing about DCOM is... is that even though the public isn't as aware of the name change... residency directors realize that DCOM = MCP hannamen.... so.. as far as residency placement goes... the fact that the college of medcine changed names is not a big deal... because they realize that its the exact same med skool as MCP... just different name

Hahnemann is a fairly established/respected name in medicine and people in medicine know that (my UMDNJ interviewer described it as one of the more established medical colleges in the nation). And while it might not be ranked highly by US NEWS, what makes US News the authority on med school rankings?
