I am an international student.
Gotta choose between Purdue (main campus) vs Drexel (13k scholarship) for business?
please feel free to contribute, I wanted to know which one would be better, good college life and a good program matter most to me.
thanks
I went to Purdue my freshmen year before finishing my first undergraduate at Texas A&M University. I actually stayed in the Business learning community even though I was an engineer. All of my friends loved the program there and had jobs at the end. Though, since I transferred, I can’t tell you if it was the jobs they wanted.
Purdue is a great school, but its surroundings suck and you are really far away from any major city. There isn’t a lot to do and you definitely need to make a friend with a car or have a car yourself. If you do end up getting a car, I think you’ll be fine. West Lafayette and the campus surroundings do have movie theaters, bars, restaurants, a mall, etc. There are also a load of student organizations everywhere else.
I am looking at going to Drexel to finish a second bachelors. The big difference is the surroundings. There is public transportation in Philadelphia, the opportunities in the city itself for fun or for career are ample, and Drexel is very big/well known for entrepreneurship, Part Time MBA, and Executive MBA Progression, if those mean anything to you (http://www.drexel.edu/about/glance/rankings/).
You can’t go wrong with either school, I think Purdue’s school has a better academic reputation and Business school overall but both have solid reputations. The big difference is the quality of living in the surroundings.
When I transferred from Purdue, I really missed the academics and reliable administration, but I didn’t have a car and didn’t surround myself with the most exciting people.
Thank you @MechanicalFox this was really helpful, but if I choose Drexel I’d be paying around 7-8k more than Purdue so do you think that Drexel would be worth that?
I couldn’t say one way or the other for you to be honest. I will be going in the fall to finish a second bachelors and I am definitely paying a bit more at Drexel than I would at other schools that I have been accepted to as well. For me, that was okay because the admissions administration has been amazing when it comes to correspondence and communication, I would be in an urban area surrounded with lots of things to do as an adult, and I’ll still be attending a university with a more than solid engineering reputation. Co ops were not attractive to me coming in as a freshmen and I am not sure I would have picked Drexel over Purdue if it was an option because of that. At 25, Co Ops seem like a great opportunity for me though.
My parents are also helping to cover the finances of Drexel and I have already been through college once and have got my 4 year college experience out of the way. So my choice on schools at the moment is based on factors that should be drastically different from yours.
What do you want out of your college life?
