drinking at kenyon

I grew up in Gambier and still live there. My grandfather taught chemistry there for 30+ years, my mother has worked at Kenyon, my stepfather is works there, and I have many friends who have attended or are attending.

Let me tell you:

Drinking at Kenyon is BIG.

If you want specifics, PM me and I will email you.

and then PM any of us Kenyon students who live with "the drinking"/non-drinking rather than just living near it.

I would just like to say that there is drinking at every campus and when I visited Kenyon the drinking seemed minor as compared to Denison where my friend's roomate has been in the hospital twice for alcohol poisoning already. I have friends that get drunk every weekend and pass out at parties. Do I join them? No. My point is that alcohol is everywhere but its up to you whether you choose to drink it or not. No one is going to force it down your throat.

as i said in the original post, i know there is drinking everywhere and lots of college students do it, etc etc. i just wanted to see how big a thing it is at kenyon, which many people have answered...so thank you : ) there seems to be quite a debate over it...which is sort of telling in itself. there are a lot of things i like about kenyon though, i was just curious on this one issue.

About what are the percentages of the students who drink and smoke? Do students at Kenyon seem to lean towards drinking or smoking at parties? How strict is the security at Kenyon when dealing with alcohol and drugs? thanks for the help.

80%+ drink 30% smoke? Security is fairly harsh this year.

Hmm, ^ what do you mean when you say that "security is fairly harsh this year"?

And by the way, is Kenyon still the same Kenyon as it was a few years back? Where everyone lives in harmony with each other? The recent few issues of the Kenyon Collegian have sort of revealed some stark differences from what I've always perceived Kenyon to be, i.e. how people have been "unkind" to each other and such and also recently, I am surprised to see that all the ambulances in Knox County were utilized during the Phling and that really sort of illustrates the drinking situation at Kenyon. Can someone care to enlighten me on these issues? Anyway, I hope I wont be offending people... it's just that I have some concerns regarding these issues.

But I do feel that the collegian is doing a great job, i.e. when there's a problem, the issue is usually discussed instead of sweeping it under a carpet.

Security used to let parties go...now they bust them a good deal more. I have seen a trend of increased frosh drinking. It seems like every new class gets smarter, but also parties harder. Hopefully this levels off...

Kenyon has not changed that much, if anything people are just complaining more...there have always been some issues, like every other campus.
