Is there a drinking culture at Oberlin?

Most colleges in the U.S. have a drinking culture… it just depends how hard you want to look for it. My experience at Oberlin, as someone who drinks rarely and in small quantities, was that I never felt pressured to drink, and never had trouble finding friends who weren’t drunk and things to do that didn’t involve drinking (movies, baking, board games, concerts, improv shows, open mics, trivia night, contra and blues dances, jam sessions, art shows, midnight bike rides, tea and conversation … you get the picture!) On the other hand, I had friends who were much more attached to the classic drunk college party scene, and when I saw them on Sunday afternoons they seemed pretty pleased with how their weekends had gone. Basically, it’s there if you want to be part of it, and easy to avoid if you don’t.
