<p>I have a question. Over at the CMU board, it seems like the only socializing people do there is drink. Is it like that for Penn too? I’m allergic to sulfites, and bad experiences with drunks makes me have a distaste for them in general. It seems like at a lot of colleges, drinking and partying are synonymous… Thanks!</p>
<p>A lot of the frat parties are basically just drinking. Some frats do throw dance parties where people actually, you know, dance.</p>
<p>But of course there is more to life than frat parties, so if drinking bothers, you can go bowling, watch a movie, hang out, etc, etc.</p>
<p>Drinking and partying are definitely synonymous at every school. If you go to a party, there'll be beer.</p>
<p>That being said, though, a little more than a third of my hall are "non-drinkers" including me. During the weekend we tend to stay away from the frat parties and go into center city to restaurants, concerts, group shows, plays, shopping, or just hang out around campus. </p>
<p>I'll be honest with you, sometimes the drinking scene can seem huge and youll hear lots of people talking about how drunk they got over the weekend, but once you find your niche (with 10000 undergrads it isnt very hard to do) youll definitely have a lot of options for having fun. I think being in Philadelphia has a lot to do with it.</p>
<p>I think Penn would be a good place for a non-drinker. At rural campuses its everywhere, and in the cities there isn't much else to do either. The casualness of Philly is much more condusive to non-drinkers than NYC for example. I actually tried quitting drinking in NYC but I found nothing else to do so I started again.</p>

<p>Are there some decent looking girls at Penn going along with the question of the social scene?</p>
<p>I've heard REALLY mixed things. Basically everything from "Penn girls are hot" to "Penn girls are hideous."</p>
<p>I think it depends on your preferences, since many of the girls at Penn are from the Northeast and Jewish.</p>
<p>Well I can't exactly say I'm partial to Jewish girls in particular but I am not terribly picky. I hope they are at least decent? Clearly not in Wharton but maybe in the college overall? Can anyone else shine some light on this?</p>

<p>There are some very attractive Wharton girls. There are around 5000 female undergrads here, you're bound to find a few that meet your standard.</p>
<p>There was a psych survey recently and their definition of "to party" was "to drink alcohol."</p>
<p>I've heard that Penn is the Ivy Party school. But from a few ppl that I talked to that currently attend Penn, you can have fun without drinking.</p>

<p>Im not trying to sound pessimistic about Penn girls, but...you are in the middle of Philadelphia!!!!!!! How can you not find someone for you in one of the largest cities in the US??? It's like saying you can't find a casino in Vegas.</p>
