Drinking?

yep I drink socially with friends

I drink so rarely I hardly think it can be called anything.
1-2 parties per school year. That's it.
I don't think drinking is an issue as long as you know your limits and trust at least some of the people around you to keep you safe.

i am going to get so tanked once i go to college.

not me

and i despise those people who say "non-drinkers are losers. I'm having better like than you because I drink. i'm so much better than everyone because i drink."
I respect people that choose to drink, very highly.. but it's those ones that think that they are better than you that **** me off.

I have never and will never drink. Alcohol tastes horrible!

well goldfish so you know... after a while alcohol doesn't taste bad... after a few lost hands in drinking poker, you can't even taste the 4 or 5 double shots of gin going down your throat... then of course somehow you end up with your face in the toilet then all of the sudden you're on a different floor and it's morning and nobody has any clue how you managed to get where you are. Let's not forget how fun it is to have some idiot who decided he'd be cool and mix all the drinks in the house together and drink glasses and glasses of them blow chunks all over you. Not that I've ever experienced any of that. All in all drinking isn't bad so long as I remember my limits and I don't have a girlfriend at the time.......

Isn't so bad?
Throwing up, waking up in random places and people throwing up on you...isn't so bad?

I'm confused.

Anyways I really don't like the taste of alcohol so I don't drink much but I do respect people who drink, except someone who does it every weekend and thinks it's the only way to have fun.

I can relate to what some of you are saying, in fact almost all of it, but I am really superstitious and am scared of those adcom's... lol. So I will keep away from this thread, as hard as it is to not voice my opinions.

but... XCchick, yes all that stuff is bad, yes drinking is rather disgusting at first... However, the former rarely happens, and the latter goes away after a very short while.

yeah that stuff usually doesn't happen, and in actuality, i had a lot of fun despite that stuff (from what i remember).

All in moderation...

No. Its illegal for those under 21. Idiots don't make the law, and there are good reasons why these laws are put in place. Your brain doesn't stop developing till at least 21 years of age.

Your decision, but remember, its against the law.

in moderation drinking is just fine. moderation can be only 2-3 drinks for some women, and 10 drinks for men. it depends.

Idiots don't make the law

Are you sure you really want to say that? :)

As for the other stuff, the U.S. has the highest legal drinking age in the world. Everywhere else is 18 (or 16 in some places for non-hard alcohol), and last time I checked, Europe wasn't having any epidemics of stupidity due to people drinking alcohol before their "brains stop developing"
Drinking alcohol in excess will hurt your liver, but not your brain. What alcohol does to the brain is to damage dendrites, the ends of the neurons that send messages around the brain. This is what causes all the common signs of drunkenness - slurred speech, lack of balance, etc. - the signals in the brain are simply moving slower and aren't as effective. This is why alcohol is a nervous system depressant. However, the damage that is done is repaired as alcohol is metabolized from the blood stream.

lol icarus! yeah when my friend went to germany, she said that kids would go to bars afterschool and drink until 7 and go home lol (i think she said that the legal age is 16 there.. hmm cant remember)

And yes i agree that some drinks are awful tasting. I still can't drink vodka straight. I HAVE to dilute it (alot) with lemonade. My friends always laugh at me when I whip out my lemonade bottle,, like as if i'm not woman enough to drink straight vodka lol

and as someone said, moderation is the key..

straight vodka is the shizno! actually it tastes horrible, but i think that mixing stuff doesnt help, so it's just better to take it in quick shots.

sagar_indurkhya... i bet at whatever ivy league school you plan on going to there will be PLENTY of people who drink, most of those people are under 21 as well (many are merely a year older than most of us here). This has gone on for quite some time, and I don't see Harvard producing a bunch of brain-damaged idiots. My suggestion to you is that you get used to it.

Oh and we won't go into an argument about the idiots who make the law ;)

i don't want to go to ivy league schools, and if i did, whereever i go, i won't drink. i'm telling u not to, just stating my position on the matter.

Drinking age in Germany is 16 for beer, wine, etc. and 18 for hard stuff. My friends went there on a school trip and had a blast (their teacher would buy them a round at meals).

My drink of choice = vodka and coke.

anyone think that bacardi and cola commercial is funny as hell? I know I do... although it seems a bit on the racist side, but I think it's good that they're not uptight about being politically correct.

whats the point of moderation, if your not drinking to get drunk then whats the point? its not like it tastes good or anything (unless your drinking some girly high priced mixed drink)

You can drink to get a "buzz" without being drunk. And for relaxation.
