Drinking?

As for the other stuff, the U.S. has the highest legal drinking age in the world. Everywhere else is 18 (or 16 in some places for non-hard alcohol), and last time I checked, Europe wasn't having any epidemics of stupidity due to people drinking alcohol before their "brains stop developing"

Actually, in some places in Canada, the drinking age is 19. But yea, thats still lower than whats in the US.

And what's even more ridiculous. You can't drink until you are 21. But you can drive at 16. That's just crazy.

I never got why people drink, though. And why do people need buzzes!?

actually I thought it made less sense to drink before you can drive... O.O

For me it makes more sense. Generally what is more dangerous? Getting into a death machine (car) and driving or drinking alcohol.

i have 12 year old cousins in belgium who go to a bar and drink with their friends. its not even considered illegal there for a pre-teen to drink.

I suppose the thought is... if you are "mature" enough to be allowed to control a numerous amounts of lives (through driving) then it would make sense that you could drink. My mom doesn't mind my bro drinking (who has for a while) even though he's not 21 because she thinks that if he's old enough to be drafted then he's adult enough to make the wise decision when it comes to drinking.

thats a good comment givemethegun. dont u guys think that drinking/license/drafting should be at same age like european countries where it is 18. it makes perfect sense. us has greatest percentage of minors getting into car accidents (why? because they are too young to drive). and then if ur going to get drafted (they consider u mature) then u should make mature decisions when drinking. stupid american laws.

Exactly. Where I live the age for wine and beer is 16. Hard alcohol is 18. Driving is also 18. I got all my crazy drinking out of me when I was 16. Even though I'm allowed to drink and drive I don't do much of either. Why? Because its not a big deal. Once the novelty of it wears off its not much fun. Same as when it becomes legal. Its far more fun to do things that are not allowed.

"Once the novelty of it wears off its not much fun."

exactly. kids who drink when they are underage do it to be cool and to seem older than they really are. once they see that u kind of "get over" drinking and whatnot they stop.

I know. When I was 16 I thought it was so cool to go drinking and clubbing. Now that I'm 18 I just don't care anymore. I'll have some wine at dinner or a drink or two if I go out, but generally don't drink. Kids need to learn at home early responsible drinking, from their parents. My parents have been letting me drink at home since I was 12 or 13, same with my brother. And we both turned out fine. No brain problems. We are just responsible with drinking.

i think that if kids start drinking at a younger age, they will drink less by the time they turn 21 than someone who followed the law and started drinking at 21. does that make sense?

People just need to know their limits, no one likes a sloppy, puking drunk or an angry belligerent one either.

this same thread happens month after month after month...seriously

probably not as much as AA though.

Be careful scarlet... even mentioning the acronym can spark a debate. and julius, the people who have been on the other threads can just ignore it if they choose, or comment if they like. By the response so far, why not have this thread? I think having an active forum on something is much more informative than reading a bunch of old posts. Different people have different things to say as well.
