I myself don't drink, but I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you know your limits, stick to them, and don't drink so much that you get addicted. If you want to get drunk, that's your choice, just don't drive while you're drunk or do anything else that would endanger other people.

To me, it seems really simple.

Bad Choice = Drinking irresponsibly, getting too drunk to remember anything, drunk driving, abusing alcohol etc.

Good Choice = Drinking responsibly (or not drinking)

Coot, I think I used to have your opinion (OMG DRINKING IS BAD! NEVER DRINK <21), but then I got real. ANYTHING (commodities AND necessities) can be abused/used in a harmful way. It is HOW you use something that determines what kind of person you are.

Also, you're not better than people who drink responsibly only because you choose to stay "dry." If that's your opinion, you will have serious problems in life (because of how extremely judgmental that is).

When it comes down to it, you must make a choice to abuse alcohol (the bad one), or to use it responsibly (the good one). Just remember not to be too quick to judge.

i completely agree w/ kevin. know your limits. be responsible. and dont judge people that do. most of them are actually good people that just like to have fun

I don't drink.

The main reason I don't drink is because of the way my friends and schoolmates drink. Nobody drinks just a little, and nobody respects their limits. Most people drink as much as humanly possible until they're crazy drunk and throwing up. A lot of people have had their stomachs pumped. There are people in my class who've become full-blown alcohol addicts by the age of 16.

I also feel a lot of these people drink to give them courage. They're so completely different while they're drunk. They go and hook up with people they'd be afraid to speak to while sober.

That just doesn't seem appealing to me. I don't like to be around those people when they're so drunk, either.

I don't mind the taste of it, and I might drink in college. For now, I'm happy being dry.

Wow. So many youngun's who are still wet behind the ears...

I drink and smoke pot, but not in excess. Usually only 2 to 3 times a month at absolute tops.

I think as long as you're safe about it and you don't get out of control, there is nothing wrong with either. I have absolutely zero tolerance for driving under the influence and i make sure none of my friends do so.

Basically if you're mature and you know your limits, i see no reason not to have a bit of fun and get drunk every once in a while.

I don't drink, but not out of some lofty moral standards, I just don't enjoy it and don't see any reason for it.

Some girl who goes to my sister's school, a freshman, is currently on life support after an end-of-school party where she got so drunk she rolled down a hill and into a street. Rumors are she's in a coma but I don't believe them; still, she's in critical condition. She's lucky she didn't die. I'm not sure what this says about drinking, I know it's super rare, but...meh, it doesn't make me want to get falling over drunk any time soon, especially since I weigh 92 pounds.

I refuse to believe that choosing not to drink will mean a lonely college experience. (responding to shorty08)

Apparently you're 23. Look who's calling the kettle black.

Dry to the extreme. haha
I hate any drinks, sodas.. other than water and milk.
I rarely drink milk, so water then. haha

agree 100%. after having one of my friends die in a crash, last week, when she wasn't even drunk, just buzzed a little, EVEN ONE IS TOO MANY.

KissMeKate...I don't understand.

There is a HUGE maturity level difference between a 23 year old and a high school senior. Hell, there is a HUGE difference between a high school senior and a freshman.

wine celebrates life in some religions.

like akvareli, I'm extremely dry. I only drink water.
have nothing against the other beverages, I just don't enjoy the taste of milk, coffee, tea, or sodas.
so its conclusive that I don't drink, but loads of my friends do drink, and I'm okay with them as long as they don't endanger anyone.

Surfette, I guess my view is on a much larger scale...

Once in a long while, only because I dont have a great deal of access to it. If i were to have my choice, I wouldn't drink beer though. I'd at least have something better than that, a mixed drink or something.

i hate the taste of alochol, and i'm not going to touch that or drugs.
Why mess up my body?

do you eat fast food?

coot, for god's sakes please dont act like this next year at BU. I can tell you right now my potential frat brothers and I, as well as many in the BU community will not accept that kind of attitude. If you dislike it or dont wanna do it, fine. Just dont vocally oppose it, rat us out to admin/RAs, etc. Do what you want, but have legit reasons. We're not a bunch of idiots nor alcoholics. While we dont have the BIGGEST drinking scene in the U.S., it's certainly there. Dont make the mistake of saying something stupid.

I don't really care if people around me are drinking. The only thing that really bothers me is smoking, becuase it affects everyone in the room.
