<p>So we were planning to go to Duck Days tomorrow (6th) but I backed out due to weather through the pass from northern CA across the border. Has anyone done this trip? How bad are the roads through the mountains? Any realistic estimate how long it would take from San Luis Obispo? </p>

<p>I think the Siskiyou Pass is supposed to be snowy tonight and maybe with a little more weather early tomorrow. They'll probably post a chains advisory, but I imagine it would be lifted by mid-day tomorrow (Friday). Interstate 5 over the mountains is just fine, it's a good, broad, well-maintained freeway. I don't know about the coast route, but it wouldn't likely have the same snow issues. Not sure how long the drive would be from SLO. I know it takes me about 12 hours from Medford to Los Angeles in good weather and obeying the speed limit. (My brother who is less meticulous about watching the spedometer makes it in a shorter amount of time. ;))</p>
<p>Thanks. 12 hours to LA is pretty good. And you are about 2 1/2 hours from Eugene right? But you have a straight shot on the 5. We have to either go up the 101 through the Bay Area or shoot through the valley to Kettleman to pick up the 5. Thanks for the info...much appreciated.</p>
<p>My family and I drove from Portland to visit Cal Poly SLO, which took 14-15 hours in total with a couple stops. We took I-5 for most of the trip, but I think we ended up on 101 somehow? If you're determined to make it one day it shouldn't be too bad a drive, but the weather continues to be all over the map. Of course, you're just headed to Eugene, so this Portland craziness (60-some degrees and clear yesterday, snow today -- ???) shouldn't affect you and should cut your trip down to 12-13 hours. And plus, you're a Calfornian, right? I know how you guys drive ;)</p>
<p>Thanks allemanua!! We decided not to go. I was too concerned about the weather. You know us Californians...can't drive unless it's dry, sunny and 70 degrees! And airfares are absurd. Anyway I think my son has decided on Cal Poly. What did you think of SLO when you came to visit?</p>
<p>I liked it, but I decided it just wasn't for me. I really liked the feel of Santa Clara and Stanford, so that may have biased me a little. Plus, I decided I didn't want to be an architecture major, so that had something to do with it. The people were great, you couldn't ask for a cooler student population, and there are tons of unique classes the school's ag/eng/tech focus provides access to that most schools don't have. The town was AWESOME...being from Portland, I feel right at home when there are some cool restaurants to eat at ;)</p>
