Driving from Wellesley to the Airport

My D and I will be attending SOC to see Wellesley for the first time. Excited! We’ll have a rental car, because we’re combining a couple of college visits. What’s the drive like between Wellesley and Logan Int’l Airport? Is it crazy busy? I honestly don’t know what to expect and I want to make sure I budget enough time for our departure.

It depends on the time of day and day of the week. We fly in from the West Coast on a red eye. The Callahan Tunnel gets congested early with commuters driving into Boston. Then there is a stretch that moves fairly quickly until the huge toll booth on the Mass Pike. That can be avoided if you know how. Just give yourself time and don’t fret the delays.

@Oregon2016 we need to catch a 3pm flight home on a Tuesday. How much time do you think would be sufficient?

@Undercovermom1 - I’d want to be at the airport about 1 1/2 hours before the flight - or 1:30. Then factor in the rental car - I’d aim to be at Logan by 1. If you leave Wellesley at 12 you should have more than enough time to check in and relax before your flight.

Thank you! @myjanda

I think that’s sufficient for a Tues or the weekend. Maybe add half an hour in case you get lost or miss an exit or something. Mass drivers are not known for letting you in. For future readers, traffic is always much worse on Fridays and/or if it’s raining.

Whatever you do, take the Pike (90) thru the Ted Williams tunnel to the airport. It’s the fastest way, even when there’s traffic and it’s impossible to get lost. (There are shorter routes, but that one is the fastest and easiest!)

Thank you for the tip. Must appreciated.

I have typically found the car rental return at Logan a little confusing. I would leave no later than 12:30 - 12:45 pm for a 3 pm flight. (I’m assuming you’re not checking luggage.) I’d give yourself an hour to get there because you just never know.
