Hi guys. Here's my situation.I got admitted by Davis for the major "environmental horticulture and urban forestry",my GPA was 3.235 before this spring.I'm taking chem 121 and bio 131 this semester.I'm not doing well in the bio 131 and want to drop it.I contacted Davis and they told me I can update the course change and explanation of the change on the website, and they will determine is it an issue. Will I have a high possibility to be rescinded? The assist says students are highly recommended to finish all the chemistry classes before transfer, no need to finish all the pre-req. Also, as I know this major is not selective, rarely heard people major it.I think that's why I have a chance to get in.I appreciate any help and advice.

An additional question,do I update the courses change right after I drop the class or after the end of spring when I know all my spring grades?

if dropping the class isn’t going to put you below 60 units for transferring, I don’t think you’ll be rescinded. When I did my transfer application last year for the 2011-2012 year, I dropped my Bio 94 class (one of the required pre-req courses for my major that is equivalent to Davis’ BIS 2B and BIS 2C courses) and while that put a setback on my course planning, I was still accepted.

It’s ideal that you update the course change right after you drop the class, and then update your spring grades for your other classes later when you get the grades.

@sopranokitty Thanks for your advice! If they decide to rescind, when will they post the decision? After they know I drop the class or after they get the official transcript including the grades for srping? Thanks

@ if they decide to rescind you, I think they call you as soon as they see your changes. That’s what they did to my sister last year when she was rescinded for getting a D in her math course.

oh, and I want to clarify that’s 60 semester units in my other response. :)

@sopranokitty Thanks again!Another question, the admission page says I have to decide whether to accept or decline the offer. Do I need to accept right now?

As a transfer, you have until June 1st to decide whether you want to accept or decline.

If you know you’re gonna get a “D”, I would drop it.

@sopranokitty I’ll drop it by tomorrow and then update the courses. What should I say in the explaination regarding the reason why drop and how to make up it? Can I say I’ll retake the corresponding class at Davis?? Thanks

I am in the exact situation assassinshi. I have been admitted to Davis as a History major, 3.2 GPA, 82 units completed and IGETC done. I’m taking 2 classes, a Brit lit survey and Spanish 2, however, I’m most likely going to get a D in the Spanish class…

I’m also going to call admissions tomorrow and find out the significance of dropping an IP class. Hopefully its not a big deal since Spanish is not a prereq for my major…

@TrippinD23

If it’s not a pre,-req, and you don’t need it for IGETC, you should be fine. Make sure you notify them though.

@ assassinshi: sure, you could say that.

Thanks that’s my thinking too. I’m definitely going to notify them and submit my updated spring course work on the Davis Myadmissions site ASAP once I speak with them and drop the class at hand.

@ TrippinD23 I called Davis afternoon and was told I need to update the course change asap. Someone will send me an email shortly regarding if I will be rescinded or not. Hopefully we are all fine!

@ assassinshi Did they give you approval? On the site it notes:
You may not drop or withdraw from any course(s) reported as “in progress” or “planned” without prior approval.

Calling them right now but of course I’m on hold

Spoke to admissions, they said it shouldn’t be problem as I have more than enough transfer units. I have submitted my updated spring course work with an explanation and should hear back in a week or so as to how this will reflect my admissions. Fingers crossed…

@ TrippinD23 I’ve dropped it today.I have more than 70 transferable units, and IGETC is done.I think I’ll sit tight wait and see what’s gonna happen. I think you should be fine as Spanish is not pre-req. Getting W is definitely much better than D.

Im in a similar situation with physics. Not need for my major and I don’t think I’m going to pass. I’m well over 60 sem units. What’s the number you guys called to talk to admissions about this?

i’m sure D avis would have been cool with a D. It is UC D avis after all.

E-mailed me back:

We have carefully reviewed your recently submitted academic records and/or correspondence, and find that dropping your SPAN 2 course will not affect your admission status.

You should be fine.
