Get a C or take a W?

I'm taking Calc II right now for winter and and will probably end up getting a C in the class. Should I just drop it, get a W, and retake it in the spring or just get a C? I'm an econ major applying to ucla ucb ucsd and usc

i say take the W.

i would imagine “personal schedule conflict” looks better than “my teacher was bad”

If it would be the only W on your transcript, then I would take the W.

W dude. Doesn’t affect your GPA, a C will kill you because you can’t retake it. My counselor said that some students purposely get Ds or Fs if they think they’re going to get a C because then they can retake it with no harm to the GPA. Ws don’t really affect you, unless you rack up a bunch. But even still, much less harmful than a low GPA.

What is a W, can someone explain that to me?

…a w is a withdraw

if there is only one or two

ur fine

ok thanks guys. i think i will take a W since i dont have any yet.

If you don’t have any W, you can afford to take one this time. One W is easily brushed aside as a schedule conflict / unforeseen circumstances.

If you have many Ws, you can afford to take one more.

Anything in the middle is grey area, but probably take W anyway. It seems that lower state schools don’t care about Ws. Besides, it’s better to have one more W than to fail to fulfill transfer agreement conditions (if you’re transferring under that).

the agreement with my school is that you can not xfer more than 2 repeats.

i dont know if a W would count as a repeat if the same class appears in your schedule next semester, a C sure would though.
