Drop Chem 3BL or Bio 1A/AL

I'm currently signed up for 18 units:
Chem 3B/Bl
Phys 8A
Com Lit R1B
Bio 1A/AL

At first I thought this would be manageable because I like the topic for my R1b and I already did most of the bio ready, but 3 labs is just too much.

If I drop Chem lab, I'll be at 16 units.

If I drop Bio, I'll be at 13 units and I'll have to finish my lower div reqs in junior year. I was told that taking only 13 units might look bad, so I might add a decal if I drop bio (bringing my course load to 15 units).

Any opinions on which class I should drop?

Chem lab. Makes much more sense.

check ur inbox flutter

3BL makes a lot more sense as the drop choice, as above.

“I was told that taking only 13 units might look bad”

Whoever told you that obviously did not look at your schedule. You’re taking 4 fairly hardcore classes. No one is going to be like how many classes are you taking? oh isn’t that only 13 units? why are you being such a ■■■■■?

Thanks for the input, all. I think I’m leaning towards dropping bio though.

Chem lab feels like it’s not going to take much work, but it will take a decent amount of time. Bio, on the other hand, is going to eat up a lot more time and it seems like it’s going to take a lot more memory work than I want to pile on top of chem and phys.

So does chem 3b/bl, phys 8a, com lit r1b, and a decal seem like a decent schedule?

drop chem3b and 3bl. think about all the practice problems you have to do in addition to mastering physics homework which takes forever. bio on the other hand is more memorization than homework problems.

Chem 3BL takes hours each week. I remember in Sp09, I would spend an hour in office hours getting NMR answers and getting other things answered, then I would work on lab and next day’s prelab from like 8pm to 2am…

Yeah, Chem 3BL was pretty terrible. You actually have to go to office hours for that class to get any of the questions completely right (I never went and would not recommend that).

And if you’re going to be a bio major, you really should take Bio1A as soon as you can.

That’s odd…other people I’ve asked said chem with phys is a decent combo, but most of you here seem to differ.

In any case, I’ve already dropped bio 1a.
Any recommendations for open classes I could add?

because chem + phys = a crap load of practice problems that are not fun. bio is just memorization.
i don’t know why you’re trying to commit gpa suicide, but if you want to add another class, just go look at the schedule pages

Just because it’s a lot of work doesn’t necessarily mean it’s difficult (at least that’s the way I see it). With 8 hrs freed by dropping bio, more time for practice problems, right?

And to flutter:
Taking Bio asap was my major concern when figuring out which class to drop. Bio 1a/al is independent of Bio 1b, yes? So if I take bio 1a/al in the spring and do bio 1b in summer or fall junior year would I be on track for a bio major (MB)?
