i took 6 aps this year (jr year) in a school that offers 6 periods in a day. next yr as a senior i plan on taking 4 aps. academically this yr was v good (i am expecting to end with the best grades so far out of the three yrs of hs ive been in) and i got more sleep than last yr, so the drop in # of aps isnt due to inability to handle a hard schedule, but rather b/c id want to slack off senior yr…only concern is, would this significantly impact my chances of getting into colleges? i’m like 90% sure it wont, but people are advising me to take more aps (specifically ap lit) because they think DE english doesnt look good to most schools. im planning on graduating w/ 13 aps, 10 honrs classes, and 2 DE classes (assuming i follow the 4-ap schedule ive planned out for sr yr) if that matters thx
did you already take ap english lang?
will you taken 4 years each of FL, math, science, gov/history and english? please list the aps you are planning on taking/ and will have taken.
Yes I have taken ap lang; yes i have taken 4 years of all the above
APs I have taken:
9th: US Govt/Pol
10th: World History, Computer Science A
11th: Calculus BC, US History, English Lang, Physics 1, Chinese, Art History
APs I plan to take:
12th: Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Statistics
you would be fine with that schedule.
BUT I suggest you drop the AP stats and envir, which are known to be the “easiest” AP.'s and dont impress any college admissions reps, and take the AP Lit and 2 other NON AP classes you are really interested in. Your total # of AP classes does not matter as much as their rigor.
Having a free period during the first semester of your Sr year for the whole college admissions process is also a good idea- You will need that time for filling out college applications, FA forms[ if you will need financial aid- have you had the money talk with your parents yet? Do you know what they can actually afford to spend to send you to college? If the answer is NO or if they have demured with “we can make it work” phrases, then you need to pin them down before applying to any college that costs 60,000/year , then have that talk ASAP], writing your all important essays, Running NPC’s, getting teacher recommendations, etc, etc …
Applying to colleges is like having a mandatory part time job during the first semester of Sr year.
This is what Stanford says about AP classes:
"We want to be clear that this is not a case of “whoever has the most APs wins.”
I agree…if you are taking AP Bio and AP Chem (that is alot at one time!!!) there is no need to take AP Environmental Science.
You could take AP Statistics or perhaps DE Calc 3.
I don’t think I would take DE English unless you have some real reason for it. Can you take AP Lit?
