Does your courseload really affect your chances of getting into colleges?

I’m thinking of dropping AP Lit because it’s a pretty intense class at my school, and most people have C’s right now. I’m thinking of dropping to Honors Lit because everyone in that class says it’s easy.

But I took AP Lang last year, and people have been telling me that if I drop down to honors it reflects poorly on me. Should I drop, or should I stay?

(side note: highest reach school is UPenn. Plus, I’m taking AP Stat, AP Econ, AP Art History, and AP Spanish this year as well)

Rigor of schedule is considered one of the most important factors. Many would argue it’s the #1 factor. There really is no better advice than to perform well in the AP class.

Rigor of courseload is very important. That said, nobody wants to see you in a class you can’t do well in. It is kind of a Catch-22. Would your guidance counsleor check that you have the most rigorous schedule with the AP Lit? how about without the AP Lit? Are you taking APs in Calc/Science/History?

Since you have 4 other APs this year it is probably okay to drop the 5th. A C in an AP impresses no one, so you will be better off in honors with an A
