My daughter was in the school orchestra freshman and sophomore year. She was a good viola player and was in Honors level orchestra her sophomore year, but at the beginning of junior year made the decision to drop it. She just didn't like playing any more.

Now we are wondering, should she list her two years of orchestra on her apps? She didn't do many ECs those two years, and was able to pick up more her junior year. Will listing two years of orchestra make her look bad?

Listing 2 yrs of an activity is fine. Your D should rank her ECs starting with the strongest/most involvement. If there’s still room on the application when she comes to the 2 yrs of orchestra, then she should list it.

Agreed. D played soccer her first two years, including varsity, decided it wasn’t fun enough to justify the time commitment, and dropped it. It’s on her Common App, but pretty far down.
