I dropped out of UC Davis in January 2015 after 2 years of school there because of personal matters, my GPA when I withdrew was at a 2.8. Right now I am attending a local CC in LA to figure out what I’d like to do. I met with a counselor and he advised me to go back to UCD. He said to try and ask if I can get reinstated so that I can complete my Italian major (I had maybe 3-4 classes left but I would have had to double major or minor in something else to graduate with enough units), along with a couple GE’s and minor in something like Political Science. I’m not sure I want to go back to Davis, I’d much rather keep it local, but I was wondering if I am able to get reinstated since I wasn’t kicked out or anything, is it possible for me to transfer all those credits I completed for my major to another UC like UCLA, instead of going all the way back to UCD? Would I have to ask the faculty advisers or the admissions office at both universities about this? Would they consider a case like this?
I would contact UCD about reinstatement. For UCLA, I would assume you would need to apply as a UC to UC transfer applicant, but again I would contact UCLA directly.
@EmmeZ99 You can apply to any UC once you transfer to a CCC. And yes, you can easily go back to Davis as you were not on Academic Probation. One thing to keep in mind, if you go back to the same UC, they will not accept IGETC and you must finish the GE’s you started there. If you transfer to a different UC and the major highly recommends IGETC (as Italian would), you really need to complete it to be competitive. Or at least Partial IGETC, to be completed by summer. (Some of the Davis courses may fulfill IGETC.)
The courses you took at Davis will transfer to another UC. Another issue to keep in mind: you need to add up all the units from the CCC and the UC, and not reach the transfer unit maximums, which might happen if you stick around the CCC to collect the 30 semester units you need to transfer as a junior.
This might be what the advisor was getting at - get reinstated at Davis without accumulating so many CCC units that you become ineligible.
Here are the unit maximums by campus. Remember every UC Davis course is added to all UC-transferable CCC units. You do not want to go over the numbers listed. (And you need 30 semester CCC units to get priority community college transfer consideration.)
