I was considering dropping science and taking ap stat and ap comparative government senior year instead of taking ap physics b/ap chem. I took honors bio (9th), honors chem (10th), and ap bio (11th now) and got A's and A-'s in all of them.

I know colleges want you to take all of the core subjects senior year, but what if you replace them with other ap academic courses?

Other note: I plan on majoring in economics.

Colleges don’t necessarily want you to take all core subjects senior year, but they do prefer seeing that you had ‘4 courses’ of each core (4 years worth). For instance, some people take an extra science class their junior year and then don’t take a science class senior year, but they completed their 4 ‘credits’. In my case I took AP Calc AB last year, which made a total of 5 courses of high school math and so I didn’t take a math class this year.

If you’ve only taken 3 science courses then I’d recommend you fit in a fourth. I don’t know what the rest of your schedule looks like, but you can def make it lopsided with classes that matter for your major if you want. I’m taking AP Physics B, AP bio, and AP chem this year (bio and chem are both two class periods long), so that’s 5 out of 7 slots filled with science. It’s totally acceptable, but at the same time I completed my ‘4 years’ of other core. Maybe you could post your schedule?

Ok, so I my senior year schedule is currently this:

AP Econ
AP Lit
AP/H French (I don’t know which yet)
AP Calc BC
+
AP Stat + AP Comp Gov
OR
AP Physics B

I have already done 4 years of social studies as a junior, and have 3 classes in every other subject, plus a business, culinary arts, and graphic design class.

Judging based on that, which option should I chose?

Hm so you only have room for 5 classes at a time? Most people I’ve seen have 7 classes, sometimes 6. And are AP stat and AP comp gov both 1 semester long? It’s usually AP comp gov that’s 1 sem, but AP stat as 2 semesters - I’m just confused on why it’s not something like only AP Stat vs AP Phys B

Because my school follows this random schedule. If I take physics, I would have to have a separate period devoted to lab, thereby taking up one of my classes.

My school has a max of 6 classes + lunch and gym. Plus, all of them are full year.

Basically, which schedule do you think I should go with, out of the two options listed above?

I think it would probably look better if you took AP Physics or just any science course. How many science credits do you need to graduate? I only needed 2 years (2.5 credits) but I took four (5.5 credits) for college purposes even though I’m going to major in Creative Writing. However, I also took 4 English classes my senior year instead of 2. It could be beneficial for you to take courses that are more related towards your major but I wouldn’t sacrifice your science class to take them. Is there any other way you can fit one of them in without dropping your science?

You’re lucky that your school lets you take the AP science course without needing to have taken the regs/honors class. My school required me to take Honors before I could take the AP version of each of the sciences.

Anyway, based on ONLY those two options you listed, I’d say go with AP Physics B. However, in my opinion the most ideal situation would be if you could take AP Statistics + AP Science. I guess this isn’t an option though.

I think getting the 4 years of core is more important than taking a couple other classes (AP stats is somewhat useful for your major - but you’ll prob be taking it in college regardless. And I really don’t think you’ll be running across any Comp Gov so nbd). This is just my opinion though

Yah… I mean my heart is telling me to go with the Stat + Comp Gov, but my brain is saying to go with Physics. Also, another question: What if I opt for AP Chem instead of AP Physics? That would mean I would have never taken a Physics in high-school (does that matter?). I am honestly neutral between those two sciences, but I am leaning to Chem just because I have already taken that and I liked it AND I absolutely loved my teacher and she’s teaching AP Chem. I really would love to have her senior year!

Exactly which sciences have you taken so far? The main ones you kind of need are bio, chem, and physics. I’ve taken all of them, and because I’m not planning on majoring in anything science related, I’m not taking a science senior year.
