Dropping a sport senior year?

I've been doing field hockey for like 5 years (made varsity junior year) but I'm just not feeling it this year. I'd rather do a less time-consuming dance thing and join other clubs. Will this hurt my application?? If I've realized field hockey is not my passion, should I go with that and try new things or just do it for one last season to appear committed and consistent? By the way I'm not planning on playing varsity in college, but maybe club or intramural.

BUMP. I have the same problem but I’m a guy dealing with soccer… help us out anybody?

im wondering if i should drop it junior year if im planning on taking 5, maybe 6, ap courses

Yeah I’m taking 5 AP classes next year too… Help anyone?

I was thinking about the same problem, with field hockey! omg twinning. so I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I want to stick with the sport, because there IS only one more year, joining any other clubs at this point won’t really make a difference, and I absolutely love my fh family. however, I did come up with something that may be a good compromise for you: become team manager. there’s less of a commitment (game days only), but you’re still “part of the team” even if it’s not to the same degree. you should still have the time to do other things, like dance or new clubs, because now you don’t have 3 hour practices daily :p

also, I don’t know if it makes a difference with the APs, but talk to your coach. I took 3 APs last year, and 5 this year. they might be more willing to help you out than you might initially think.

My son quit football and rugby his senior year. It is hard to know if it had an impact on his college acceptances, but I don’t think so. I think most schools are interested to see if you were a good student who was involved (leadership positions are certainly a positive). I think your extracurricular activities can really help only if you plan to pursue them in college. It also does not seem to be true that the time saved from dropping activities translates to more time spent studying. Good Luck!

if your team manager, you get made fun of non-stop… atleast in my area

Yeah, I don’t think the team manager thing would work that well, haha. The team already has two coaches and barely enough players… I’ve kind of decided not to do it because it starts in a couple days and my heart is not in it at all. Is that a good decision? I keep second-guessing myself.

DD skipped crew senior year. She had just had enough. It was a spring sport, so it did not impact applications in any way. She had no regrets.

A lot of kids at my school generally don’t do spring sports senior year because of senioritis. About 4 out of the 7 seniors on the track team this past year decided to quit as a combination of senioritis/other commitments. This included the captain.

I mean it depends if you wouldn’t think you would regret it then do it, but it is your senior year, your last time to play varsity, at my school we have senior night and awards, but if you don’t care quit.

At my school most seniors tend to stay involved with their fall season sports, then there’s a huge drop in the numbers of seniors in spring sports. I’m having the same issue too. I’ve done cross country all 3 years of high school (also making varsity junior year) and it was a major part of who I was, but now I’m just not feeling it. And it’s 100% I won’t be varsity this year due to new people joining the team. I think if you really don’t want to do it, then don’t. I feel like no college is going to reject you for that as long as you’re still involved in other activities and didn’t drop field hockey so you could sit around at home. Or maybe try staying on the team but not taking it too seriously and just having fun with it. Me and my best friend actually decided that our senior year motto is “I’m just doing me” and by that we mean we’re going to do all the things we want to do and not care what anyone else thinks, including colleges.

I have to admit I’m not lookin forward to my fall sport, but it’s too late to quit because I already tried out and stuff and my sport goes all the way until March… Not excited and it makes me sad

I wish this was a spring sport and my spring activity (the musical) could be a fall activity, then I wouldn’t be having this issue…
I’ve kinda decided not to play though.
Would getting an after-school job make up for it? I need to save money for college and stuff anyway…
