dropping AP chem...?

hey guys...quick question...is it better to have a C for AP chem or a WD (meaning that i withdrawed...it's not WF) on the transcript? i sort of already dropped...but i just feel like i need some reassurence of some sort. lol. i'm a junior and my schedule w/o AP chem is as follows:
AP world
AP english
Hon physics
Hon Precalc BC
Hon french 4

my rank is like the top 10...if that helps...

any inputs???
thx!

ps. since i didn't fail, it will not appear as FAILING. my GC said that she would write something in her rec that would make it seem alright.
so...which is better? withdraw or C?
i know that WF is completely unacceptable. but what about WD? lol

C

You have a semester to bring it up to a B

that would be extremely difficult. the last test, i studied till 4 and still failed miserably... and also, i'm worried about the AP exam. love my teacher but she doesn't teach a thing.
i would stay if i could get a B...but even a B- would be so hard

is "withdraw" that bad?

Yes, it really is. At least with the grade, colleges will see that you at least tried and maybe you could even write about how much time you devoted to the subject even though the grade doesn't reflect it.

A withdraw kind seems like a give-up to me. Something colleges NEVER want to see. (Please, don't take that the wrong way lol.)

If you don't mind me asking, what's a WF?

WF basically just says that u failed, and the teacher MADE u drop or somethin

idk...i'm not doin so well this yr at all. am having a little trouble getting A's (especially since my school changed its grading system. now we have +'s and -'s)...so i don't want a C to ruin it even more...GPA's goin down the drain

WF stands for withdrew-failing I do believe. that's what it stands for around here atleast.

Is there any way that you can drop down to honors chem? I think that'd be better than a complete drop.

But, if you're really losing that much sleep than I do suggest you drop it because you're getting into serious health issues. (I know from personal experience and I don't want you to have a breakdown like I did lol.)

i already took honors chem last yr. so i don't really have anything else to go into. cuz it just won't fit into my schedule. i already have no lunch and i can't move the classes around either.

so now, i'm just plannin on doin community service...
i sort of already dropped (gave in papers already) but if someone's advise is really convincing, i'll go back to my GC and ask her to undrop me. lol

Wow, drop it and have lunch! Lol. I can't believe schools let you drop lunch. That would NEVER happen at my school.

lol. haha. i'm used to eating lunch during physics. it's fun...no seriously. lol.

anyway...my GC told me that she would add somethin to my rec so basically she'll do some explaining for me. what's the best way to write it so that it won't appear as if i'm just a delinquent who gives up easily?

just a question: is it insanely hard to take AP chem w/o having taken honors chem? i only took basic chem

^^^
talk to the AP Chem teacher. he/she will be able to give you the best answer. at my school it's doable, but of all the regs to AP, the highest grade among them is a B-.

Ya - depends on your school's curriculum.
Here, we have Chem 1-3, with 2-3 (regular and honors) basically AP content but missing a few formulas here and there...so going from 1 to AP even from regular wouldn't be impossible.

what if the transcript doesnt show that you actually dropped the class after the first semester? What if it just showed for 1/2 year credit? Would it look that bad then?

Look, it might not look ideal to colleges, but if you're happier in the end without AP Chem then you're fine. Staying in a class that you're getting nothing out of is just ridiculous, and if colleges decide that they're so elitist that you're not allowed to pursue things that actually interest you then you're better off not going there.

i think u should stay.. and try to get an A 2nd semester, try to make a deal with the teacher to change ur grade if u get a 5 on AP test or something? talk with teacher and counselor about a grade change or something?

It's not that he's not allowed to pursue his interests, it's because the only reason he's dropping AP Chem is because of that C. If he didn't like chemistry before, why didn't he drop it then? People go into AP classes thinking it's a great idea, and suddenly the subject "doesn't interest them" when they get a C. My advice is, suck it up. You knew how hard the class was going to be two weeks into the schoolyear, withdrawing would raise red flags. If a subject really doesn't interest you, you should've dropped it before it mattered.

Alex

^^yes. i made a huge mistake by thinking that AP chem would be just a little harder than honors chem. and then i made another mistake thinking that i could pull it off even after the first two weeks in it...well knowing that i find the subject dreadful...partly b/c of the teacher...

u know how colleges say, "take courses that actually interest you"...well that's not always the case. a lot of ppl here say it too and so do i. but it's a lot harder when u actually have to ACT it. it's sad but it's true. most kids in my classes take these AP/honors courses to get into the college of their dreams. who doesn't? lol. i learned my lesson. guess i just have to suck it now and deal w/it. there's nothin i can do.

thx for ur inputs guys! =)

i eat during physics too!

and um, i *would*have stayed but if you dropped i guess it's better to not loose so much sleep over something. If you'll get a C and still not sleep til 4 before every test that's not really worth it.
