i'm a sophmore in high school, and i'm currently taking ap euro. (only ap i'm taking) my schools first semester just ended, and i ended up getting a D in the class. i'm wondering if i should drop the class this spring, and take regular world history. will it hurt my chances of getting into college? i'm not really looking into getting into any ivy's (obviously) probably looking into getting into uci. euro is really taking over my life, and hurting the rest of my classes. i actually got a 3.0 this semester, which is the worst i've done. i've never gotten anything below a 3.8 i know, it's only one ap class, but i guess i'm just not ready for it. what do you guys think? should i drop it?

anybody…i don’t know what to do :(

My D had a similar experience.

She decided to stick it out.

If it’s any consolation, it got easier. The first semester is killer.

Yes, it actually was killer. I’ve never learned so many lessons so quickly. Just wondering what did your D get second semester?

…wouldn’t it be kind of hard to get into the ivy leagues with… a D on the transcript?
sadly I don’t think I have enough experience to advice wisely, but I wish you the best of luck!

Haha, i said i don’t plan on going to any ivy’s…haha…

I don’t have any advice. I only can relate how my D experienced things. It was a terribly hard class. So don’t feel bad. She’s a 4.0 student, so the prospect of a B was disheartening to say the least. But AP Euro is most kids’ first AP so the teachers make it hard. On purpose. At least, that’s how our school did it.

I say, stick it out. It is important for the ivies, if that’s important to you. “Take the hardest classes.” That’s what they all say. If you get a B, that’s OK. At least you challenged yourself.

Good luck! :)

If you don’t care about the ivies, screw it and live life.

My D ended up with an A, but it was a total commitment that even her parents would not have recommended unless Harvard was important to you.

Honestly, I wish kids would enjoy HS more.

Haha, wow, now hearing a 4.0 student got a D in euro makes me feel a little better I also heard it gets easier 2nd semester…Maybe i’ll just stick with it and try a little harder this time.

But just wondering, does anybody know what will happen if i drop it? Will it hurt my chances of getting into UCI?

Oh my god. Sorry. I keep misreading posts. I’m really unconcentrated right now… hah.

Is AP Euro really hard? I heard it was O_O

Haha, it’s all good!

Yeah, I think it’s hard…I can’t believe one of my friends got an A in the class Oo
It’s just A LOT of work, just like all other AP’s. And i’m pretty nervous for 2nd semester, since I haven’t even started a 500 point project that was assigned first semester. It’s due in march or april oo

Euro was one of the hardest APs in my school. You were part of the “Euro cult” if you took it. It’s definitely one of the most interesting classes, though. You get interesting history (Defenestration of Prague!) + Art History in one class.

It was REALLY tough. Lots of reading and lots of papers.

But everyone got a 4 or 5 on the exam, so it paid off.

If i drop the class, will it look bad on my transcript? I’ve never dropped a class before. And if I do drop it, will I get an F in the class? Or will I still have my D?

I think you’ll get a W for “Withdrawal”. Either that or the D will stay on your transcript. I’m not sure…

Yeah, i’m not sure either…because I finished the semester. I’m confused, does anybody know?

Most schools will mark it as a Withdrawal-Passing, but basically every college knows that when they see that, it means the student was basically a few points from failing.

Uh oh, maybe I should just drop it…I mean it’s only one class…and if I do continue to take it, I doubt my grades will get better. I’m just scared to tell my mom I want to drop the class.

Well, maybe your mom will understand.
