I am currently taking 7 classes this semester (4 APs, 2 honors, and 1 on level). One of the classes I am taking is AP Government. One semester of government is required to graduate from my school. I transferred to my school sophomore year, and I obtained a semester of government credit from my freshman year unlike my fellow students. Currently the AP Government class is overfilled and has a waiting list of students. Because I have already had the opportunity to take a government course, I feel that it would be appropriate to offer my spot in the class to a student on the waitlist. I was wondering if my dropping an AP course because of this unusual situation will affect my acceptance to the colleges I am applying to.
Probably not, especially if you are replacing it with another class. But you still need to contact all your colleges to which you applied to notify them of the change.
Yes. How much and how would typically be unknown.
But you do need to report any schedule change to all colleges applied to as soon as possible.
I would not be replacing it. My school has 8 blocks and i am one of about 5 kids with only one study hall this semester (most students have 3)
If the college has an issue, it will tell you. But you have to tell them; they tend to hate surprises.
Are there seniors on the waiting list who are at risk for not graduating? If so I’d discuss with your guidance counselor. Let him/her pull you from the class if necessary. Then the guidance counselor can write a letter to colleges saying it was a school decision to pull you from the class.
If there are only underclassmen on the waiting list I would take the class. They can take it another time.
