I have been involved with my school's newspaper for about 3 years now (I am a junior) and I am thinking of quitting starting next year. The drive just isn't there anymore and I am more than unsatisfied with the people on staff with me.
I have won multiple state-level journalism awards, held a leadership position, and also spent almost 10+ hours per week on editing my section and helping out staff writers. I am involved in several clubs at school but my "hook" is the paper, I fear that by dropping it, I will just be another folder in the admissions office. I do like writing and I can tolerate another year, I just don't want to. I know you will probably be saying "DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY", but we all know that it's not that simple. I don't want to make a decision I will regret later.

I would stay with it. How are you going to explain to adcoms what you did senior year? As editor is a great position, especially if you made a big difference.

Clubs, school newspaper, etc, are not hooks. You can drop it and go with the journalism achievements through 11th. But, it’s wise to replace it with something adcoms will value.
