Drug test for federal work study?

I've been awarded work study for college this fall. Since I will be getting a job, do they have to drug test for work study? If so, when?

Not all schools do that I don’t think, it might depend on the job offered. If they do a drug test I assume its right before they actually hire you and when they do the background check. They are not gonna tell you exactly when.

Why you worried?

Some do, some don’t. I do because I am working with young kids.

You shouldn’t be doing anything that you would need to worry about a drug test though.

Ok, so some jobs need a test and others don’t. What kinds of jobs specifically would not need a test? Do you think working in tech wouldn’t require a test, because I’m a computer guy
Yeah I don’t do any drugs really, I just smoked twice this weekend with buddies without realizing school’s coming up in 2.5 weeks

It honestly depends on your school. My friend’s school drug tests every body before they get a work study job. Honestly, if you are worried, then don’t do anything so you don’t have to worry! Seriously, it isn’t something you should risk. Work-study money is too important for quite a number of reasons.

You can detox your body. Look up various ways to do it. I don’t want to recommend just one cause I’m not sure if its the best, but Cranberry juice and lots of it will help. Water too.

The best way to pass a drug test is to get and stay clean? Just guessing.

Parent here…agreed with the poster who said you just need to clean up your act. If you don’t USE drugs, it won’t matter if they do a drug test or not. May as well get into a good habit now because MANY employers do drug tests.

I sincerely hope you neither drink alcohol or smoke tobacco; otherwise, maybe you should reevaluate your definition of “drug.” However, the majority of employers conduct drug testing for assorted illicit substances, conventional wisdom dictates tapering off in habits/addictions- or moving to states who support constitutional rights.

I wonder how that guy’s doing and if he made it into or through his junior year…

Robert, I’ll bite. I have no issue with drugs but rules are rules and for now you have to follow them. Your issue is with the law, not us telling the OP not to do anything stupid to risk his federal aid.

The OP to this thread is over two years old.

probably a lot over two years old if he’s worried about drug tests for college work study. Or maybe just precocious.

It may be an old thread, but it is interesting. Maybe all fed WS jobs should require entry and/or periodic drug testing.

The detox advice may not be very helpful. When my son got his current job he had to have a hair test which required his hair to be at least a certain length to show at least 3 months history, plus a urine test, plus they breathalyzed him - at 8a.m. in the morning! He commented “surely people don’t show up drunk to an employment medical at 8 a.m.”, the response “you’d be surprised”.

I knew I should’ve paid more attention in those Civics classes. I must’ve completely overlooked the part where they discussed one’s constitutional right to smoke weed.

^Well, no, but… it would have been a non-issue considering many of our founding fathers smoked weed.

But yes, you’re right… it’s not part of the Constitution.
