You might be aware of the 2015 national survey indicating that Ithaca College was rated higher than the national average in drug and alcohol use and STRESS levels. What can comment about these issues? Are students highly stressed? Is drug and alcohol use pervasive?
Hi! I just gave a really long and drawn out response on the alcohol issue in your other thread, but I can talk about stress in this thread!
When walking across campus, most students I see/speak to/interact with seem pretty happy. Obviously everyone gets stressed at different points and for different reasons, but we do have an office called CAPS (counseling and psychiatric services) right on campus. They offer individual and group therapy sessions. Last semester they actually had an entire group for freshmen to learn how to adjust to college and cope with stress, so that’s definitely something people can and do take advantage of when they need it.
All of the majors and schools do have their own common stressors, though. I can definitely address this further too, if you’d like.
This is a really broad topic, but it’s super important, so definitely feel free to ask more questions! I’m not trying to seem coy, I’m just struggling to come up with a super specific answer for this.
