some colleges are extremely rediculous about alchohol...given that its pretty much a given that underage people will drink. How lenient would you rate Cornell in terms of allowing alcohol to be freely consumed? (1-10, 1 being most lenient)

I'd give it a 2 or 3. My RA doesn't really care if we drink, as long as we're not belligerent You can't walk around in the hall or campus with alcohol, but you can drink in your dorms. I've walked around outside with a beer, but you shouldn't. You can walk around or to parties with your special pepsi or your alcoholic water bottle, though.

marijuana. how easy is it to get away with? is there is a lot...considering ithaca is in the middle of nowhere...but i guess supply and demand economics would supersede?

I know people who have smoked in their rooms, like idiots, and have not gotten in trouble. I know people who have smoked in broad daylight next to the dorms or next to the dining hall. It's really easy to get away with, though I don't think smokingi n the dorm is a great idea. Pot is abundant, you shouldn't have trouble getting it.

other drugs...how common? shrooms/acid/etc/etc...DMT?

Let's see...I've heard of people on shrooms, acid and coke, so far. I think shrooms would be the most common of the three. People obviously aren't as open about drugs other than pot, so if you're into anything hardcore, it's going to be harder to get than pot.

What % of YOUR freshman class would you guess had never done any pot or alchohol in high school? Walking around on tour I saw some people I sure wouldn't wanna hang out with...lol.

I've been drinking forever, as have many people at Cornell. Then you have the new drinkers, who make for wonderful, belligerent amusement at their own expenses. I've also smoked quite a bit of pot in my life, but it's not as popular as drinking at Cornell. Lots of people smoke, though. If you're in a group of 10 chances are more than one smoke with you. That all being said, I think it's really immature to judge people on their drug/drinking experience. Hopefully you'll grow up before you get to Cornell and realize that people are not defined by the mind-altering substances they take. Drinking and doing drugs don't make you a cool kid, incase you weren't aware ;).

What kind of alchohol is most common on campus? Cornell is a big school so I wouldn't expect it to be a problem but I know some small schools sometimes only have Beer and beer en masse. Beer sucks...imo...but I'm sure after a few times forcing it down you'd get used to it. Is hard alch readily available (both at parties and to get for your room)? Captain's spiced? And for beer...good stuff or **** like Natty light?

Cheap beer is generally the fraternity beer of choice, since they have to supply the thirsty masses. Beast/Milkwaukee's Best is both the most popular and the most nasty beer at frat parties. To avoid forcing yourself into getting used to it you pregame thoroughly in your dorm. In your room you can regulate the quality of your liquor (it usually starts off as quality stuff and gradually progresses to big plastic bottles of 10 dollar vodka as poverty strikes). Alcohol is pretty available; there's usually someone who will buy you liquor (my friend is turning 21 over break :)). Or there's Grandma's, as Sparticus said. One night I knocked on several doors and found some alcohol that way. People are pretty generous with their liquor, if you're polite about it.

Sounds like you're pretty concerned with drinking and drugs.
