Just wondering if anyone here has marched a drum corps. I was in the front ensemble of a small open class one last summer, Incognito. We didn't score very well because the corps was returning from a hiatus, but it was a lot of fun and I loved watching the world class corps.

I was thinking of joining one for guard (Santa Clara and Blue Devils are both pretty close by), but I’m afraid of the commitment times, since my school’s guard already takes a lot of time. I actually really want to do Winterguard with Santa Clara, but I won’t have time at all next year because it’s junior year and auditions for this year were in September.

Also, it costs like 2000 bucks for Open Class, which is a lot of money.

Yeah, it’s really expensive, and if I had known how tolling the time and transportation commitment would truly be I would’ve waited until college, personally. (I did it the summer between junior and senior year, and even open class it was pretty difficult.) If you want to, totally go for it! BDB and Vanguard Cadets are both great groups

I’ll probably wait until college, since pretty much no colleges in Cali except UCLA (which I don’t want to go to; there are other UCs with far better programs in my interest area) have a guard.

If you go to school anywhere near Riverside, you can take RCC’s marching band as a transfer class (I think that’s what it’s called?) and get some amazing guard opportunities there. I love RCC’s marching band.

@lipatti16 I’m probably not going anywhere near Riverside; the closest college I’m thinking of is around an hour away, sadly. Hopefully I’ll stay in Northern California, although if I get into both Berkeley and Harvey Mudd, it would be a tough choice (my number 1 is Stanford, but that’s obviously not going to happen).

@topaz1116 okay, well you never know about Stanford. best wishes! :)
