Dual Admissions Program at NOVA Southeastern University

Hey guys! I need some advice on getting into the dual admissions (for the 8-year DO program, maybe the dentistry program as a backup program) at NOVA Southeastern University. So I have 1290 on my SAT (I know its really bad, but I’m retaking it in a week) and have taken multiple AP classes (I got a 4 on every test) and have a 3.99 unweighted GPA and a 5.2 weighted GPA. In addition, I am on my school’s honor roll. I am also certified as a CNA (certified nursing assistant) and as soon as I turn 18 I will take my EMT certification test as well. I am part of Key Club, president, and founder of my school’s multicultural club, vice president of my school’s HOSA, alumni of HOBY, secretary (not even sure if this matters) of my school’s fitness club and part of my school’s NHS. I also have earned all the medals for the Congressional Award, have gone to the international HOSA competition, won the gold Barbara James Service Award and 1st place in the Times-News photography competition (for portrait). I have also done 1000+ hours of volunteering at my local hospital, women’s shelter, and retirement home. I have also done research at Johns Hopkins for Retinitis Pigmentosa (and got an abstract and paper published with my name on it). So what are my chances of getting into that program?

I know I am not Ivy league material, but I really want to get into this program (or any 7 or 8-year DO or MD program I can get).

P.S. Please, please, PLEASE do not give me any of that, “you’re just a prestige seeker” crap. It kind of hurts because I just want some advice from some wholesome people, that’s all.

@Angelin3073,

You have a very decent shot of making it to their 7 year program. Try to get your SAT scores above 1400 if possible for best chances. Also I assume your unweighted GPA is on a 4.0 scale, right?

Have you worked with or shadowed a DO practitioner so far? These programs may want to know why you are interested in the DO route and what exposure or motivation is driving it?

The paper you got published may play a significant role in your selection(s). So be well prepared to articulate on it during the interviews and in your essays. All other achievements are impressive as well.

Thank you so much! You lifted a little bit of burden off my shoulders
